Yamaha is planning to launch its performance electric scooter, the Aerox E, based on Yamaha's Aerox 155. This will be the second entry in Yamahas EV portfolio. Since it's not a fully born-electric scooter, the dimensions remain largely unchanged. I rode the Aerox E in Pune, and here are my first impressions of this electric performance scooter. Yamaha Aerox E Design

The Yamaha Aerox E is based on the ICE version of the Aerox 155, one of the most popular performance scooters in India. It has an aggressive design with smooth body curves. While largely similar to the ICE version, differences include light blue stickers that give the scooter an EV vibe. The handlebars and its height remain similar to its ICE sibling.
The sides feature "Aerox E" branding. The rear has a sleek taillamp and a chunky mudguard. The Aerox E uses all-LED lights at the rear, including indicators. Fit and finish are impressive, with high-quality materials throughout. Paintwork and body panels are well-executed, with minimal noticeable gaps or imperfections.
Features & Hardware
The Aerox E comes with a 5-inch TFT display that shows speed, riding mode, odometer readings, and battery percentage. Due to limited ride time, the estimated remaining range could not be fully evaluated.
Designed for performance, the Aerox E has telescopic front forks and dual rear shock absorbers. It rides on 14-inch wheels front and rear, with disc brakes on both ends, along with ABS in the front and traction control on the rear.
Ride, Performance & Handling

The Aerox E delivers a balanced ride, feeling powerful but slightly jerky on rough roads. The seat is wide, though additional cushioning could improve comfort. The floorboard has a center tunnel, limiting leg space for taller riders. On smooth roads, handling is predictable, but on rough surfaces, the front suspension struggles to absorb potholes. Disc brakes feel adequate at moderate speeds but can feel less effective during sudden stops in Sport mode.
Power comes from two 1.5 kWh removable battery packs, providing a claimed range of 117 km (IDC). The motor produces 9.4 kW (12.6 hp) with 48 Nm peak torque, achieving a top speed of 95.5 kmph in Power + Boost mode.

The scooter offers three riding modes: Eco, Standard, and Power. Eco mode limits speed to around 55 kmph, suitable for short, low-traffic rides but slow for busy roads. Standard mode allows 7075 kmph, ideal for city commutes. Power mode provides maximum performance, while Boost mode adds extra power for faster acceleration. Overall, the Aerox E is best suited for short, punchy rides rather than long-distance commuting.
Practicality
The Aerox E offers some under-seat storage but cannot fit a full-face helmet. There is a small storage box in the front footwell and a dedicated space for charging. It has a reverse parking mode as well for easing the riders in tight parking spaces.

Verdict
The Yamaha Aerox E is a performance-focused electric scooter that delivers strong acceleration, sporty handling, and a usable 117 km range. Its TFT display, dual removable batteries, and riding modes add versatility, while the 14-inch wheels with front ABS ensure safety. However, stiff front suspension, limited under-seat storage, and suitability mainly for short, punchy rides make it less practical for daily commuting. A fun EV for enthusiasts, not long-distance commuters.
