The SUV segment in the Indian market is growing at a rapid pace and everyone wants a piece of it. By everyone, I mean carmakers. We explain to you the top 10 things you as a user need to know about the upcoming Skoda Kushaq.
Before we go any further and bring you all the details and top 10 things about the upcoming Skoda Kushaq, make sure you are a member of our exclusive 91Wheels Telegram group where we bring you all the latest updates related to the Indian Automotive Industry.
The Name
It all lies in the name as Kushaq is the first SUV to be based on a Sanskrit word which literally translates to The King or The Emperor. Will this Emperor will really be the face of the mid-size SUV? We can find that post its launch only.

Platform
This is the first car based on the Volkswagen-Skoda 2.0 India Project. It sits on the newer MQB AO IN platform which opens a new dimension to the SUV. Post this, we will see several cars which will share the same platform like this.
Design

The concept model was showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo as the VISION IN. It grabbed a lot of eyeballs with its unique design approach and it was the interiors that ignited the interest. The orange highlights the running across the dashboard and the 2-spoke steering wheels.
Interiors
The 2-spoke steering wheel, highlights across the dashboard, larger touchscreen infotainment system and many more highlights which were at the 2020 Auto Expo will soon be seen on the production model too. Just recently, Skoda showcased what the interiors will look like from their sketches.
Peppy Petrol Engine
When we say, turbo petrol is the new normal, Skoda has taken that literally. At the time of launch, the Kushaq will be launched in two engine options - a 1.0L TSI motor and a more powerful 1.5L TSI. Both the engines will come with an optional automatic too.
Transmission Options
For now, we know that 1.0L peppy petrol will be the same as the Rapid. The power figures are yet unknown but we expect them to be similar to keep the costs low. This smaller unit is paired to a 6-speed as standard and an optional 6-speed torque converter. The bigger 1.5L gets 7-speed DSG and we're expecting a 6-speed manual for this too.

Features
One thing which is quite mandatory apart from bringing safer cars is the features. A larger floating touchscreen infotainment system, sunroof (electric most probably), virtual cockpit instrument cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are some of the features you can expect.
Longer Wheelbase Than The Competition
At 2,671 mm the Kushaq features a longer wheelbase than its competition. That means, a roomier cabin experience for the users and ease of comfort for longer journeys.
Equipped With Safety
Apart from the stronger build quality, we know that the safety features in the Kushaq are better than others. The electronic stability control (ESC) will be made standard across variants thus giving the driver confidence at curvy turns. Also, six airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX mount child seats, Hill Hold Control, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System and others will be added.
Rivals and Expected Price
We believe that the Kushaq will start from Rs 9.89 lakh and the top model will fetch till Rs 16.29 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. It will compete with MG Hector, Hyundai Creta, Tata Harrier, Kia Seltos, Renault Duster and Nissan Kicks when it will be launched. The world premiere is set for March 18 and the launch is expected to happen in the months of May or June.
