Union Transport Minister, Nitin Gadkari announced that the condition of the Indian National Highway is in plans to transform the roads to be as good as the roads of the USA within a few years. In the next three years the roads of Jammu and Kashmir will be restructured to meet the standards of the western European roads.
On laying the foundation stone of 25 national highways planned for Jammu and Kashmir, Gadkari said this. For this project a total investment of Rs 11,721 crores would be needed to construct a 259 km long road. According to the Transport and Highways Minister, the Indian roads and these highways will meet the American standards that will accelerate peace of tourism and development in J&K.

The motive of constructing such roads is to cover Delhi from Srinagar in just eight hours and Srinagar to Jammu in just four hours. Not only the highways of Jammu and Kashmir will be taken care of, infact other districts will also get refurbished roads reducing the time consumed to travel. According to the plans made, the Government of India is planning to cover Delhi to Mumbai in less than 12 hours of time by road.
In discussion about the project with the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Gadkari said to lay more emphasis on shifting commercial vehicles to electric mobility and encourage use of sustainable energy in Srinagar and Jammu as well.

Several promises have been made by several political parties on improving the condition of the roads. In 2017 Madhya Pradeshs Chief Minister said that the roads of MP are better than that of Washington which was criticised a lot with pictures of the actual roads of MP being posted to social media handles.
Nitin Gadkari and the Government of India is in full mood to shift towards electric mobility. In the upcoming years electric cars will also become affordable for all. However the GOI will first convert all the public transport to electric vehicles considering the rapid increase in demand for public transport - roads and railways.
Due to the increase in demand for fuels there is an increase in prices also. Rather the government is also interested in increasing the use of ethanol. The current market size of ethanol is Rs 20,000 crore and the government wants to cap it around Rs 5 lakh crore in the next couple of years. The National Highway of India will soon start meeting American standards.
