With the wave of electronic mobility, most of automotive manufacturers are moving towards introducing products with electric powertrains. This is a much-needed move to aid the sustainability of the environment. Many brands have declared that they would stop the production of the internal combustion engines by the end of this decade. India, however, lagged behind in this mobility drive due to the lack of proper charging infrastructure. Skoda Volkswagen Group is one of the brands back in this pursuit. Skoda India is finally evaluating the plans to introduce electric vehicles in the Indian homelands as well and is considering setting up an electric vehicle factory in the country post-2025. As per the reports, the brand wants to contribute to the need for affordable electric vehicles in emerging potential markets like India. As developing internal combustion engines won't be an evergreen decision, a significant shift to electric mobility is a necessary decision. Therefore, a small-sized hatchback or compact SUV with an electric powertrain is on the cards from the Volkswagen Skoda Group.

Skoda Volkswagen Group considers India to be a budget centric market that demands a value for money package with affordability in mind. Thus, India is a challenging country to run a business in, but localisation has aided to a great extent. In the meanwhile, the brand plans a strong transformation in the second half of this decade and EVs are the only suitable mobility standard as per the Indian demands for the future.

Skoda is currently evaluating the feasibility of introducing the Enyaq premium electric SUV in India and plans to introduce three more electric SUVs in the upcoming years. With these plans in future, the Skoda Group does demand a firm manufacturing base in emerging markets like India.

India plays a significant role in the demand and supply of the native as well as international vehicles as the Volkswagen Skoda Group retails many Indian made vehicles in the international markets like the Taigun is exported as the T-Cross. As the group has already invested more than one billion Euros in developing the MQB - A0 - IN platform for the Skoda Kushaq, Skoda Slavia, Volkswagen Taigun and the Volkswagen Virtus, Skoda Auto Volkswagen is now working on the '2.5 project' which is a small sub 4 metre SUV which would be developed for the Indian as well as the international markets. The project began in July 2021 and has been approved for fund allocation as well.
