Toyota Kirloskar Motor today announced that the company sold a total of 15,001 units in the month of March 2021, thereby clocking a year on year growth of 114% in domestic sales, when compared to the corresponding period last year.

In March 2020 just before the nation-wide lockdown was announced, the company had registered sales of 7023 units across the country. For reference, TKM had sold 14,075 units in the month of February 2021.

Commenting on the months performance, Mr. Naveen Soni, Sr. Vice President at TKM said, We have been able to sustain the growth momentum as we closed the last quarter registering a 73% growth in domestic sales, when compared to the sales in the corresponding period last year (Jan- Mar 2020).

In fact, last month witnessed the highest ever domestic sales in the month of March since 2013, helping us clock 114% growth over wholesales compared to March 2020. Our sales performance in the last quarter proved to be better than the sales in the festive season of the third quarter (Oct- Dec 2021), clocking a growth of 42%.

The demand for personal mobility still continues to grow as we witness a surge in both enquiries and customer orders thereby registering a 7% growth in domestic sales in March 2021 when compared to the sales in February 2021.

This reiterates the popularity of the brand amidst our customers which has been further enhanced by the two new recent launches of the new Innova Crysta and the New Fortuner, as well as the Legender. Here, we only have our customers to thank for their trust & faith in the brand.

One of the other reasons for the sale of Toyota was the launch of the Urban Cruiser as it saw good popularity among the Indian market. It is based on the Maruti Brezza and gets a similar 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine which generates 103 bhp with 138 Nm of peak torque. This engine gets mated to a 5-speed manual transmission along with an optional 4-speed torque converter.

Other launches were that of the evergreen Innova Crysta last year and the new Fortuner which took place this year. The new Fortuner comes with a retuned diesel unit which now generates the highest torque in the segment. It also comes with a top of the line Legender variant but that is limited to 4x2 only.
