Volvo has revealed its newest electric SUV EX30 as its entry-level EV. According to the brand, the main target customers for this new electric SUV are younger people. With this, Volvo wants to attract people who are not Volvo customers yet & people who are looking to buy a secondary car. The new Volvo EX30 is said to be having the smallest carbon footprint ever for a Volvo car. Also, it would continue Volvo's legacy of safety by being as safe as any other Volvo car. Let's take a look at the details of this new Volvo Electric SUV.
Volvo EX30 Electric SUV: Powertrain Specs
The new EX30 from Volvo is likely to get three powertrain options with two different types of battery technologies. There would be an entry-level variant with a single rear wheel placed motor producing 271hp. It will get a 51kWh lithium-iron-phosphate type (LFP) battery pack giving it a range of around 342 km. The second variant would also come with a single rear wheel-placed motor producing 271hp, but it will get a 69kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt type (NMC) battery pack technology. This will give it a range of 474km.
The top-end performance variant will come with dual motors on the front & rear wheels with a combined power output of 427hp and a 0 to 100 kmph time of just 3.6 sec. This makes it the fastest-accelerating Volvo ever. On the charging front, the entry-level variant with the LFP-type battery will support DC fast charging of up to 134kW, whereas the mid & performance variant with the NMC-type battery will support DC fast charging of up to 153kW.
Volvo EX30 Electric SUV: Interior & Exterior
On the exterior, the new Volvo EX30 gets the signature Thor's Hammer style front headlamps with a closed-off front grille just like Volvo's flagship EX90 SUV. When it comes to wheels, it is likely to get the option for alloys ranging from 18-inch to 20-inch.
In the Interior, it gets a big 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system running Google's Android Automotive OS with support for Apple CarPlay as well. Also, instead of traditional speakers placed on the doors, the EX30 gets a sound bar running across the front width of the dashboard. Also, to make the vehicle more environmentally friendly, Volvo will offer some recyclable and renewable materials for its interiors. Similarly, there will also be an upcycled denim fiber material option for the dashboard.

Verdict: Volvo is likely to first launch the new EX30 in markets like Europe, Australia, Japan, and Thailand. As Volvo is already set to reveal its C40 Recharge EV in India later this month & launch it in India by August-September, we expect Volvo to also bring the EX30 electric SUV to India at least at a later stage if not soon.
