MG Comet EV

The Comet EV is known as the perfect metro car due to its compact size and excellent features. This 4-seater starts at Rs 7.36 lakh and goes up to Rs 9.99 lakh ex-showroom. It is equipped with a 17.3 kWh battery pack, producing 41 PS and 110 Nm of torque. This ev offers a range of 230 km, ideal for city driving. However, fast charging is not available; it can only be charged via an AC charger, taking approximately 7 to 8 hours to fully charge.

Tata Tiago EV

This electric hatchback starts at Rs 7.99 lakh, with the top model priced at Rs 12.59 lakh. There are five variants available. Tata offers the Tiago EV with two different motors: the standard version, called the Medium Range, has a 19.2 kWh battery pack, while the Long Range version boasts a 24 kWh battery. The standard battery pack provides a range of 250 km, while the long-range battery can go up to 293 km as per MIDC Part 1 + Part 2 standards.
The 7.2 kWh AC charger will take the standard battery from 0 to 100 percent in 2.6 hours and the long-range battery in 3.6 hours. Additionally, the DC fast charger can charge both batteries in just 58 minutes.

Citroen eC3

Kudos to Citroen for making their C3 into EV and coming up with impressive 320 km of range with a 29.2 kWh battery pack. This sub-compact electric SUV starts at Rs 12.90 lakh, with the top model priced at Rs 13.56 lakh ex-showroom. Citroen states it will take 10 hours and 30 minutes to fully charge using a normal home charging unit, while a DC fast charger can take it from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 57 minutes.
The electric motor produces 57 PS and 143 Nm of torque, with a top speed of 107 km/h. Also, the company offer 125000 km of warranty on eC3.

Tata Tigor EV

This elder sister of the Tiago is quite expensive, starting at Rs 12.49 lakh, with the top model priced at Rs 13.75 lakh. The motor specifications are the same as the Tiago, but here you only get the 26 kWh battery, not the 19.2 kWh one. As a result, it offers a range of 315 km. The maximum power output is 74.7 PS and 170 Nm of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 km/h in 5.7 seconds.

Tata Punch EV

India's best-selling SUV and electric car is none other than the Tata Punch EV. This car starts at Rs 9.99 lakh, with the top model priced at Rs 14.29 lakh. Surprisingly, there are 20 variants on offer, with options for medium and long-range batteries. If you're looking for a trim with a good amount of features and the long-range battery, I suggest the "Empowered Long Range 3.3" trim. The ex-showroom price of this model is Rs 13.99 lakh, but after taxes, it will cost you around Rs 14.89 lakh.
The Punch EV's standard battery pack is 25 kWh, producing 80 PS and 114 Nm of torque, with a range of 315 km. The long-range version has a 35 kWh battery, delivering 121 PS and 190 Nm of torque, with a range of 421 km. Both battery options support AC and DC fast charging.

Tata Nexon EV

The most expensive electric car on the list is the Tata Nexon EV, starting at Rs 12.49 lakh, with the top model priced at Rs 16.49 lakh. Six trims are available under Rs 15 lakh which also includes one long range model. This vehicle features a 30 kWh battery pack, producing 127.39 PS and 215 Nm of torque. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.2 seconds and has a top speed of 125 km/h. The range is 325 km, and it takes 10.25 hours to fully charge using a regular charger.
It is also compatible with DC fast charging, which takes 56 minutes to charge from 10 percent to 80 percent. Additionally, the 7.2 kWh AC home wallbox charger requires 4.3 hours to charge from 10 percent to 100 percent.

MG Windsor EV

Launched in 2024, the MG Windsor has turned out to be a blockbuster, consistently being the top draw among EVs for months. Its unique shape, spacious cabin, and wide array of features make it a perfect package that continues to attract buyers. It is offered with two battery pack options, with a maximum range of 449 km.

This e-SUV is based on the bygone XUV300, and it is the entry-level electric vehicle in Mahindra lineup. Considering the competition and other cars around its budget, the XUV400 lacks the cool factor and even Mahindra seems to be getting ready to get rid of it, as the 3X0 ev version has been spied several times. VinFast VF6

The latest car to join this list is the all-new VinFast VF6, launched at an introductory price of Rs 16.49 lakh (ex-showroom). It comes with the largest battery pack among all electric cars under Rs 20 lakh, at 59.6 kWh. This ev is available in three variants - and the maximum range it offers is 468 km. Moreover, the maximum performance figures stand at 203 PS and 310 Nm of torque, with a 0-100 km/h sprint time of just 8.9 seconds. Lastly, VinFast offers a 7-year/2 lakh km warranty for the car, while the battery pack is covered by a 10-year/2 lakh km warranty, the same as the VF7.

Tata Curvv EV

The Curvv EV made its debut in 2024 and is known for its coupe SUV design, which is its biggest highlight. The rear seat space is not the best in the segment, but the range is truly impressive. It is available with either a 45 kWh or 55 kWh battery pack, both of which come with a lifetime warranty. The maximum range offered is 502 km, as per MIDC Part 1 + Part 2. Hyundai Creta Electric

This electric iteration of the Creta is touted to be one of the best EVs out there, as everything it does feels near perfect. The interior is classier, the ride quality is fantastic, the comfort level is exactly what one would expect from a Creta, and the overall package is almost error-free. The Creta Electric was launched this year at a starting price of Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom), with two battery packs on offer - 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh - delivering ranges of 390 km and 473 km, respectively. Kia Carens Clavis EV

The first-ever electric MPV on sale in India is none other than the Carens Clavis EV, and just like the Creta EV, it is a fantastic vehicle to own. Mahindra BE 6

The last and the coolest vehicle on the list is the Mahindra BE 6, a complete beast built for young minds who love to drive and seek an unparalleled, thrilling experience. This vehicle is available with either a 59 kWh or 79 kWh battery pack, offering a maximum range of 557 km with the smaller pack and 683 km with the larger one. It comes in a total of five variants, all loaded with features. Verdict
So, these fourteen are currently the only electric vehicles you can buy under Rs 20 lakh. The VinFast VF6 is the latest addition, which starts at Rs 16.49 lakh and a total of three trims are there. Among these, I believe the Tata Punch EV stands out as the best choice, offering 20 variants to choose from and a good range. Plus, the best part is it is a 5-star rated car from BNCAP.
