Toyota Hilux
Toyota Hilux is a pickup truck for the passenger segment category in India. The Fortuner DNA gives it extra cargo space for luggage. It also has better off-road capability and road presence. It is available in only 4x4 variants with manual or automatic transmission options. It mainly rivals the Isuzu D-MAX V Cross. Accessories are available for the cargo area. They are suitable for the user's convenience.

Should I buy the Hilux?
The Toyota Hilux is a full-size off-roader Pickup. It has a great Japanese engine inside it. The spacious cabin, segment-first feature list, and big cargo area help maintain the vehicle's practicality and aesthetics. The plastic quality is much better. Overall, it’s a good product for consideration.
- The 18” chrome alloy wheels give a bold stance from the side, enhancing the ground clearance. In-rest and eg-rest can be challenging althouhg side footstep provides added support. The cargo area is large enough to carry your home inside it.
- Multiple accessories are available for the cargo area. They can enhance the practicality of the deck. For example, there is a canopy with a tent and a Tonneau Cover.
- At the rear, the design is simple and the use of chrome provides elegance to the rear. The lid for the cargo space can be opened up which increases the length of the vehicle.
- The Toyota Hilux's cabin feels premium compared to competitors. It has soft-touch materials on driver touchpoints. The plastics can be a bit scratchy and there are plenty of hard plastics all around.
- The all-black center console gives a floating dashboard treatment. The storage spaces are plenty enough with multiple options. The piano black finish with grey elements enhances the interior's overall aesthetics.
- The dual-zone automatic climate control is the segment's first feature on offer. The feel and feedback of the infotainment touchscreen could have been better. As an accessory, one can get a sports package where it gets ambient lights on offer.
- The cabin offers decent insulation from all types of noises, such as road noise, wind noise, and tire noise. However, engine noise does filter inside the cabin. The sound output from the speakers is decent.
Hilux features:
| TPMS | Yes |
| Wireless Charger | Yes - Front |
| Ventilated Seats | No |
- The Toyota Hilux comes with a single diesel engine option. It has 4X4 in both automatic and manual transmission options.
- It comes equipped with a 2.8L diesel engine, same as Fortuner. The engine churns out 205 BHP of power and 500 Nm of peak torque. You can get it with a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox or a manual gearbox.
- The power delivery is linear but the redline comes around 3700 RPM. The gear shifts are quite smooth but sometimes there’s a hassle in gearshifts.
- The vehicle maintains its performance off the road. It has a massive 800mm water wading capacity and great approach and departure angles. This proves its great off-road capabilities.
- The front row of seats offers good comfort with a commanding position. The leather upholstery offers a premium appeal. There could be some cool features like ventilated seats for added comfort.
- The second row of seats offers decent comfort. The suspension travel is decent and comfort over bad roads is okayish. The knee-room legroom is decent and shoulder room is ample enough. Some bounciness can be felt on bumpy roads due to leaf spring suspension on offer.

Latest Updates on Hilux
The next-generation Toyota Hilux is all set to make its global debut on November 10, 2025, with teaser images already hinting at a tougher and more modern design. While it continues on the trusted ladder-frame setup, expect big upgrades inside the cabin, smarter tech and new electrified powertrain options, all while keeping its core rugged pickup character intact.
The Toyota Hilux Black Edition has been launched in India at Rs 37.90 lakh (ex-showroom), bringing an all-black cosmetic package over the standard model. It features blacked-out styling elements like grille, alloys and ORVMs, while retaining the same 2.8-litre diesel engine, 4x4 setup, and feature list. The update is purely cosmetic, enhancing its road presence without any mechanical changes.
The Toyota Hilux is witnessing strong demand in India, leading to extended waiting periods of several weeks across variants. High bookings, limited production and steady demand for its rugged lifestyle appeal are contributing to the delay, while deliveries continue in a phased manner depending on variant and region.
The Toyota Hilux now comes with a 70% assured buyback scheme, allowing buyers to return the vehicle after three years at a fixed resale value. The offer is linked with Toyota Financial Services and aims to reduce ownership cost while making the premium lifestyle pickup more accessible. The scheme adds financial flexibility without changing the Hilux’s core rugged package.
