Should I buy the MU-X?
Isuzu MU-X is a full-size off-roader SUV with a great Japanese engine inside it. The spacious cabin, decent feature list, and long suspension travel help to maintain utmost comfort inside the cabin. The plastic qualities could have been better but overall it’s a good product for consideration.
- The dimensions of the MU-X are huge in proportions. It gives a full SUV vibe with a broad grill and extensive use of chrome up front. The projection of the headlights is decent enough and we expected a better throw of lights
- From the side, the 18” alloy wheels give a bold stance, enhancing the ground clearance. Since in-rest and eg-rest can be a challenge, the side footstep is provided for added support.
- At the rear, it misses on some cool features like a powered tailgate at this price point. The design is simple and the minimal use of chrome provides elegance to the rear. The boot space is decent with all the 3 rows up.
- The cabin feel of the Isuzu MU-X is decent with soft-touch materials on the driver touchpoints. The plastics do feel a bit scratchy and there are plenty of hard plastics all around.
- The chrome finish on the center console gives a floating dashboard treatment. The storage spaces are plenty enough with multiple options.
- The automatic climate control could've been easier to use. It might've been a bit confusing. The infotainment touchscreen's feel and feedback could've been improved. It falls short compared to the competition.
- The Isuzu MU-X comes with a single diesel engine option, with either a 4X2 or a 4X4 automatic transmission option.
- It comes equipped with a 1.9L diesel engine that churns out 161 BHP of power and 360 Nm of peak torque, mated to a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
- The power delivery is linear but the redline comes around 3700 RPM. The gear shifts are quite smooth but sometimes there’s a hassle in gearshifts
- The 4x2 variant excels in fuel efficiency compared to the 4x4 variant and is lighter too.
- The cabin has good insulation from all types of noises: road noise, wind noise, and tire noise. But, engine noise does filter inside. The sound from the speakers is decent. It's not as good as the premium ones from the competition. So, music lovers will not be disappointed.
MU-X features:
| TPMS | No |
| Wireless Charger | No |
| Ventilated Seats | No |
- The front row of seats offers good comfort with a commanding position. The leatherette upholstery adds a premium appeal. But, it could have cool features, like ventilated seats, for more comfort.
- The second row of seats offers great comfort. The suspension travel is more that enables extra comfort over bad roads. The knee-room legroom and shoulder room are ample enough. The roof-mounted AC vents take care of the cooling for the rear passengers.
- The 3rd row of seats is best for kids. On short travels, adults can also fit in but it doesn’t match the level of its competitors.
