Volvo EX30
The EX30 is the latest and the most affordable EV from Volvo in India. It is also now the smallest Volvo offering in India, and the features list on this car is rather interesting. However, it also comes with a few quirks as well. With prices beginning from Rs 41.00 lakh (ex-showroom), the EX30 competes against the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the BMW iX1 LWB.

Pros & Cons of EX30
What we admire in this car
The small footprint makes it easy to drive in the city.
Focused on comfort, but performs when needed.
One-pedal driving is easy to get used to.
Volvo’s focus on safety.
The ambient lighting looks really cool.
What could have been better
The rear cabin floor is rather high.
Strange omission of features, such as no ventilated seats.
Most functions are accessible via the screen only.
The ADAS tech is intrusive and just not suitable for our conditions.
Volvo EX30 Detailed Review
-
The EX30 is Volvo’s smallest offering in India, but it certainly does not look or feel small. This one gets a newer design language, featuring the closed-off nose and a full-length strip placed lower down connecting the headlamps. The headlamps come with the ‘Thor’s Hammer’ DRL effect, which continue to look stylish. The front bumper is also rather minimalistic with black cladding.
-
The profile makes the EX30 instantly recognizable as a Volvo, and there are glimpses of some of its iconic past cars. Sitting on 19-inch rubber, it gets 5-spoke aero alloy rims, giving it a more EV-specific look. It also gets pull-type door handles, along with flared wheel arches. There are five paint schemes to choose from; Cloud Blue, Crystal White, Onyx Black, Vapour Grey, and Sand Dune.
-
At 4233mm, the EX30 is just about the size of most combustion-powered mid-size SUVs, and it comes with a wheelbase of 2650mm. Towards the rear, the design has some amount of drama. It gets C-shaped tail lamps connected via two full-length strips both at the top and the bottom. Additionally, the D-pillar also comes with integrated tail lamps.
EX30 body specifications:
| Wheel Size | R19 |
| Seating Capacity | 5 seaters |
| Ground Clearance | 207 mm |

-
The EX30 comes primarily in a rear-wheel drive guise, with one electric motor driving power to the rear wheels. This setup produces a claimed 268bhp and 343Nm of torque. These figures push the EX30 to a claimed top speed of 180kmph, with a claimed 0-100kmph time of 5.3 seconds.
-
Backed by a 69kWh battery pack, the EX30 comes with a claimed range of 480km on a single charge, and it gets multiple charging options. A 3-phase 16A setup will take a claimed time of 8 hours for a full charge, while a 175kW DC fast charger will take a claimed time of 28 minutes for a 10-80% charge. Additionally, Volvo will also give a 11kW wallbox charger. Volvo is also giving out a very generous 8-year battery warranty, along with 3 years of car warranty, a 3-year service package, and 3 years of free Roadside Assistance.
-
The interior of the EX30 is clean and minimalistic, as is the trend with most modern electric cars these days. The instrument cluster is rather small and mimics the look and feel of a head-up display unit, while the 12.3-inch infotainment touch screen takes centrestage. Most functions of the car are controlled via the screen, such as the drive modes, ESC, lighting and more.
-
The EX30 comes equipped with a 9-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, and VOlvo has done something unique here. There are no speakers on the front door; instead it gets a full-length soundbar just below the windscreen. However, you will find speakers on the rear door, and a sub-woofer in the boot.
-
In terms of features, it comes with dual-zone climate control, one-pedal driving, power-adjustable front seats, 5 ambient lighting and sound themes, built-in Google and Apple CarPlay, a digital key card system, power-operated tailgate and more. Safety-wise, it gets adaptive cruise control, automatic high beam, parking assist, a 360-degree camera, lane-keep assist, a blind-spot monitor, and rear-cross traffic alert with auto-braking among other things.
