The rear section of the SUV has a unique design. It comes with LED taillights and houses a spoiler integrated with the roof. The rear skid plate-like cladding gives the SUV a rugged look along with the aero blade wiper and chrome elements. In addition to this, there are reflectors on the rear bumper that enhances the look of the vehicle. The Scorpio measures 4456mm in length, 1820mm in width and 1995mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2680mm.
The Mahindra Scorpio has an attractive design that lends a bold character to the SUV. The 17-inch alloy wheels on the top-spec variant even give it a very macho stance.
Like the exterior of the vehicle, the interior of the Scorpio has a stylish look. The dashboard houses a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system that is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The cabin of the SUV gets a plush faux leather interior. The seats are well cushioned and are comfortable. Also, the driver seat is height-adjustable. The multi-spoke steering comes with audio controls for the driver’s convenience. The cabin is built with practicality in mind as it has lots of storage spaces. There are cubbyholes in the floor console and extra storage space in the centre. The cabin is also loaded with features like anti-pinch windows, electronically adjustable ORVM controls and an automatic driver-side window roll-up once the vehicle is locked.
The Scorpio is also equipped with an automatic HVAC system. The cabin can be cooled quickly thanks to the Scorpio’s powerful A/C unit. In addition to all these features, there is a 12V charging socket for added convenience. The overall fit and finish of the current-gen Scorpio is definitely a step-up from the versions that came before it, thereby making the cabin a nice and comfortable place to be in.
As for the seats, they provide decent comfort. The second-row seats provide decent under-thigh support and there is an ample amount of legroom. However, the third row is a whole different story. Travelling long distances in the third row can cause discomfort as there is minimal legroom and under-thigh support. The driver seat, on the other hand, is extremely comfortable.
Overall, the Scorpio cabin seems to have decent build quality. It has a plush interior and houses all the contemporary features.
As mentioned earlier, the Mahindra Scorpio comes with a 2.2-litre diesel engine that has two states of tune. If the carmaker is to be believed, the micro-Hybrid technology of the Scorpio optimizes the fuel efficiency as well as the power output. Also, the mHawk 4-cylinder engine with variable geometry turbocharger and an intercooler is now compliant with the latest BS6 emission standards.
The S3+ variant of the Scorpio comes with an engine that is tuned to produce 120 PS of maximum power at a peak torque of 280 Nm but the rest of the variants i.e. S5, S7, S9 and S11 come with an engine that churns out 140 PS of maximum power and 319 Nm of torque. The S3+ variant gets a 5-speed Manual transmission but the rest of the variants come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.
The powertrain setup found on the S5, S7, S9 and S11 variants of the Scorpio does perform extremely well. The 319 Nm of torque that the engine produces definitely comes in handy while performing tough manoeuvers on an off-road trail, though, sadly, 4WD is no more on offer. Despite the boxy body, the straight-line performance of the vehicle is decent. The vehicle is also built to withstand the stress encountered while driving off-road, all thanks to the ladder frame chassis as well as independent front suspension and coil springs with a torsion bar at the rear. The powertrain of the S3+ variant also provides similar performance like the other variants.
An ARAI mileage of 15 kmpl along with a strong performance of the Scorpio in tough conditions as well as on highways makes the Scorpio an SUV that is desirable.
The suspension setup on the Mahindra Scorpio is on the stiffer side. Body roll has been cut down by a margin as compared to the previous-gen model, but a good amount of body movement can be felt when the vehicle encounters a corner. Even though the suspension is set up on the stiffer side, it soaks up the small bumps on the road when the vehicle is moving at low speeds. At higher speeds, the Scorpio feels planted on the road and has good high-speed stability. The engine has also been improved in terms of refinement and hence the NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) levels are quite less. The vibrations do not seep into the cabin.
The braking capability of the vehicle has been improved but they still feel a bit soft and spongy at times. The steering gives good feedback at lower speeds. The SUV feels sufficiently agile and nimble, and at higher speeds, unlike the Scorpio’s predecessors, the steering gives more confidence to the driver.
The Scorpio is so much more stable when compared to its predecessors. The vehicle is easy to drive and has a turning radius of 5.4 meters which means that driving through narrow lanes and taking U-turns is not too tough.
In terms of safety features, the Mahindra Scorpio comes with dual airbags, ABS, panic brake indicator, emergency call, anti-theft alarm, high-speed alert, seat-belt reminder, engine immobiliser and many more.
The vehicle comes with crash protection crumple zones which are the key points on the structure of the vehicle that absorb impact in the scenario of a collision. In addition to all this, the Scorpio has an E-call function. In case of an airbag deployment, the E-Call system calls the emergency helpline number and sends an alert to friends and family members with the current location. This is a unique safety feature that Mahindra has implemented in the Scorpio.

I have a 2018 Mahindra Scorpio S5 black colour which has 35 thousand kilometres on the odo. The vehicle has been extremely reliable so far and is comfortable. I usually travel with my family and no one has any issues with the car apart from the lack of storage and utility spaces. The service costs of the vehicle have never crossed Rs 5000 and the support from the brand is great. The build quality of the vehicle is great and the design of the car makes it very attractive and bold. The car is easy to drive and the visibility from the driverâ€™s seat is great and it is very easy to drive this vehicle in the city traffic and in narrow spaces. I will definitely recommend this vehicle to anyone who needs a comfortable, affordable, and reliable SUV for family use.
I have a 2015 Mahindra Scorpio S11 in black colour which has run about 70 thousand kilometres as of now. I bought this car because it was one of the most affordable and reliable 7-seater cars that were available in the market back then. The design of the car is great and has a proper SUV stance. Apart from that, my car has never let me down so far. The engine is supremely powerful and pulls strongly. The refinement levels of this oil burner may not be the best but it is its great reliability and powerful output which made me go for it. The seats are comfortable but there is a dearth of utility spaces and bottle holders inside the car. The fuel economy figures that I get from this engine stands at around 14-15 KMPL on mixed usage. The service experience from the brand is nothing too special and is decent.
