What's interesting is that the Indian carmaker is offering 4WD too as an option, however, that is limited to the diesel trim only. Watch our exclusive Scorpio N drive from Pune to Delhi in diesel automatic Z8L variant on YouTube.
Engines
Mechanically, the Scorpio N is powered by the same 2.0L Stallion petrol motor and 2.2L diesel motor that is available in Thar and XUV700. In the petrol mode, it generates 200 bhp on tap with a peak torque of 370 Nm. This motor is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission as standard and a six-speed torque converter automatic as an option. Also, in petrol auto, the peak torque sticks to 380 Nm.
The oil burner will be made available in two tunes - the lower trims producing 130 bhp/300 Nm and higher variants generating 173 bhp/370 Nm (MT), and 400Nm (AT). Like the petrol, the diesel engine too gets a 6-speed manual transmission as standard and a six-speed torque converter as an option. The RWD set-up is offered as standard on this one but customers can pick the optional 4WD too.
Variants
Mahindra Scorpio is offered in five trims - Z2, Z4, Z6, Z8 and Z8L. Both the Z8 and Z8L will be available in 6 and 7-seater options to the customer while the rest gets 7-seat as standard only. The captain seats really are a nice touch as even the premium offering, XUV700 does not get it. Read more about the Pros Cons of Mahindra Scorpio 2022.

The Mahindra Scorpio N is offered with a 2.0-liter mStallion turbo-petrol engine that cranks out 200 hp and 370 Nm of torque (380 Nm for AT). A 2.0-liter mHawk diesel engine is also available, and it comes with two different tunings: 130 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque, and 172 horsepower and 370 Nm of torque (400Nm for AT). Both six-speed manual and automatic transmissions are mated to these engines.
Punchy powertrains with option of automatic gearboxes across different variants. There will be a Scorpio for every type of buyer.
The Scorpio N's design certainly appears to be an evolution. The Scorpio-N has a definite muscular appearance thanks to its beefed-up wheel arches, swooping bonnet, tall stance, and body creases. It certainly has the aura of the old Scorpio, with folks making way for you on the road. It's not notably edgy, and most people are unlikely to object to how it appears. In addition to getting some chrome, the front end feels sophisticated. The rear does resemble Volvo vehicles a lot with its vertically stacked LED tail lamps.
Clean design, that will age well and is unmistakably a Scorpio.
Design-wise, the cabin is appealing. Although the dashboard design is straightforward and has a Scorpio Classic feel to it, some modern elements have been added. The cabin is consistently decorated in coffee brown and black (including on the seats), and it looks good in person. The center console in piano black is appealing.
Aside from the captain seats for the second row, the Mahindra Scorpio N has an electric sunroof, dual-zone climate control, drive modes, a new touchscreen infotainment system, a music system from Sony, and AdrenoX connected car technology.
Feature loaded cabin that no only looks good to the eyes but will appeal to the techy consumers as well.
The low-speed ride quality of this body-on-frame SUV is jiggly and somewhat unsteady, especially when there is no load in the vehicle. However, the body movement in the Scorpio-N is more restrained than it is in the Scorpio Classic. The handling of potholes and poor roads is excellent. When other vehicles are crawling at 10-15 km/h to preserve their suspension, it is a joy to pass over a rough patch of road at 50 km/h with ease. The suspension is very abuse-friendly, as one would anticipate from a Mahindra.
When traveling at highway speeds, the ride is more peaceful. In addition to the vertical movement being well-controlled, expansion joints are handled well. The Scorpio-N should make cruising down the highway a breeze.
Given the height of the car, there is obvious body roll when driving fast around curves. What's notable is that when you carry some speed into a corner in the Scorpio-N, there is less roll than in the Scorpio Classic, and you don't feel as uneasy.
Handling and ride have gone up multiple notches compared to its predecessor. Something which will be appreciated by everyone.
Six airbags, ABS+EBD, ESC, hill hold and descent control, TPMS, all-wheel disc brakes, ISOFIX, front and rear parking sensors with cameras, E-Call and SOS Switch, and driver drowsiness detection are just a few of the many safety features available.
Well laid out suite of safety features. GNCAP rating expected soon.
