Mahindra has finally come up with an updated version of one of its best-selling nameplates - the Scorpio N. The updated Scorpio N is more of a feature upgrade than a complete overhaul, since there are no visible changes to the car's design. It's just that Mahindra's urban bad boy is now more loaded than before, and that makes its value proposition even better. Mahindra loyalists have always been torn between the Scorpio N and the Mahindra XUV 7XO (formerly XUV700). Earlier, what stopped some customers from buying the Scorpio N was its lack of features compared to the XUV 7XO. But now that it has much more to offer, let's see how well it stacks up against its sibling. Here's a detailed comparison that aims to help you decide which of these SUVs is made for you.
Price: A Close Call

Model | Ex-showroom Price Range |
|---|---|
Scorpio N Facelift | Rs 13.69 lakh - Rs 25.49 lakh |
XUV 7XO | Rs 13.99 lakh - Rs 25.94 lakh |
There isn't much daylight between the two on price. The Scorpio N Facelift undercuts the XUV 7XO by roughly Rs 30,000 at entry level and around Rs 40,000 at the top end. It's a marginal advantage in isolation, but combined with the rest of the package, it does tilt the value equation slightly in the Scorpio N's favour for buyers watching every rupee.
Size and Space: Different Priorities

Parameter | Scorpio N Facelift | XUV 7XO |
|---|---|---|
Length | 4,662 mm | 4,695 mm |
Width | 1,917 mm | 1,890 mm |
Height | 1,857 mm | 1,755 mm |
Wheelbase | 2,750 mm | 2,760 mm |
The numbers tell two different stories. The XUV 7XO is longer and has a marginally longer wheelbase, which shows up as noticeably better rear-seat legroom and overall cabin room - this is the one to pick if you're regularly carrying passengers on long hauls. The Scorpio N Facelift, on the other hand, is taller and wider, giving it that classic squared-off, imposing road presence that ladder-frame SUV buyers tend to chase.
Design and Colours

Up front, both SUVs carry forward Mahindra's now-familiar rugged design language. The Scorpio N Facelift's most visible exterior update is a fresh set of dual-tone alloy wheels along with two new paint options - Galaxy Grey and Oceanic - taking its total palette to five colours. The XUV 7XO plays a different game here, offering seven shades including a dual-tone black roof treatment on most of them, giving buyers noticeably more customisation choice at the showroom.
Engines and Drivetrains
Spec | Scorpio N Facelift (Petrol) | Scorpio N Facelift (Diesel) | XUV 7XO (Petrol) | XUV 7XO (Diesel) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Engine | 2.0L mStallion Turbo-Petrol | 2.2L mHawk Diesel | 2.0L mStallion Turbo-Petrol | 2.2L mHawk Diesel |
Power | 203 PS | Up to 175 PS | 203 PS | 185 PS |
Torque | Up to 380 Nm | Up to 400 Nm | 380 Nm | 420 Nm (MT) / 450 Nm (AT) |
Transmission | 6-speed MT/AT | 6-speed MT/AT | 6-speed MT/AT | 6-speed MT/AT |
Drivetrain | RWD | RWD/4WD | FWD | FWD/AWD (AT only) |
Both SUVs share their engine family, and the petrol units are practically twins on paper. The diesel is where they part ways - the XUV 7XO's tune is the stronger one, with more power and noticeably higher torque, especially in the automatic. This is also where the mission of each SUV becomes obvious. The Scorpio N sticks to a rear-wheel-drive layout with an optional 4WD system, making it the one built for genuine off-road excursions and weekend trail runs. The XUV 7XO leans into a front-wheel-drive setup with an available all-wheel-drive option instead, tuned more for confident on-road handling, light off-roading, and a plusher overall ride thanks to its frequency-dependent damper setup - something the Scorpio N doesn't get.
Features: XUV 7XO Pulls Ahead

Both SUVs are generously equipped as standard - think auto LED lighting all around, a 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, a digital driver's display, a wireless charger, dual-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, and connected car tech.
Where the XUV 7XO separates itself is in the extras that make everyday use feel more premium:
- Bigger 19-inch alloy wheels (vs 18-inch on the Scorpio N)
- Ambient lighting and a head-up display - both missing on the Scorpio N
- A co-driver entertainment screen
- A larger digital driver's display (12.3-inch vs 10.25-inch)
- A more powerful 16-speaker Harman Kardon system against the Scorpio N's 12-speaker Sony unit
- Rear ventilated seats and a powered passenger seat, both of which the Scorpio N skips
That said, the Scorpio N Facelift has closed a lot of the gap that existed with the outgoing model - its old reversing camera has been swapped for a full 540-degree camera system, the tiny 8-inch touchscreen is gone in favour of a proper 12.3-inch unit, the instrument cluster is now fully digital, and it gains a front USB Type-C port. On safety hardware, both SUVs get Level-2 ADAS, front and rear parking sensors, electronic stability control, and hill descent control, with the XUV 7XO having one extra airbag (7 vs 6). Neither SUV has an independent crash-test rating yet, but given they're built on the same underpinnings as the older Scorpio N and XUV700 - both of which scored 5 stars in Global NCAP testing - similar results are expected once they're tested.
So, Which One Should You Buy?
Think of it less as "which SUV is better" and more as "which SUV matches how you'll actually use it."
Go for the Scorpio N Facelift if:
- You want proper 4WD capability for off-roading and rough terrain
- A commanding, rugged stance matters more to you than plush extras
- You want to save a bit of money without giving up core features
Go for the XUV 7XO if:
- You need more rear-seat space and comfort for family trips
- You want the longer features list - HUD, ambient lighting, better sound, larger driver's display
- A smoother, more refined ride quality is a priority over outright toughness
Both SUVs share DNA, but they're built with different journeys in mind. Pick the Scorpio N Facelift for the road less travelled, and the XUV 7XO for the road you travel most often - in comfort.
