Volvo EX30: Design & Exterior Highlights

Built on Geely's Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) platform, the Volvo EX30 carries a design language inspired by the larger EX90. The front fascia gets sleek LED headlamps integrated with Thor's Hammer DRLs and a blanked-off grille, reflecting its EV identity. The SUV's clean profile is further accentuated by aerodynamic alloy wheels and sharp body lines. At the rear, pixel-inspired LED tail lamps connected via a light bar give it a modern and futuristic appeal. The charging port is positioned on the rear quarter panel, blending convenience with a clean design approach.
Cabin & Features

With the international model already on sale, the cues and bits are likely to be replicated here in India as well. Step inside and the EX30 continues Volvo's tradition of minimalist yet upmarket interiors. A vertically oriented 12.3-inch touchscreen sits high on the dashboard and runs a Google-integrated interface, offering connected features and seamless smartphone integration. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay will also be part of the package. The cabin makes use of recycled and sustainable materials, while premium upholstery and a multifunction steering wheel complete the luxury feel. Other highlights include vertical AC vents, wireless phone charging, a high-end sound system, and advanced safety equipment such as multiple airbags, 360-degree cameras, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assist, all under the brand's ADAS suite.
Battery, Range & Performance

For the Indian market, the Volvo EX30 is expected to arrive with the larger 69 kWh NMC battery pack. Internationally, this unit is offered in both single-motor rear-wheel drive and dual-motor all-wheel drive setups. The single-motor version produces 268 hp and 343 Nm of torque, while the dual-motor variant pushes output to 427 hp and 543 Nm, making it one of the quickest in its class with a 0-100 km/h sprint time of just 3.6 seconds. On a full charge, Volvo claims a range of up to 474 km, and with DC fast-charging support, the battery can be replenished from 10 to 80 percent in under 30 minutes.

Expected Price & Rivals

Pricing will play a key role in the EX30's appeal. With local assembly under consideration, Volvo could price the SUV around Rs. 45 lakh (ex-showroom), making it one of the most accessible premium EVs in India. Once launched, the EX30 will go head-to-head with the BMW iX1, Mercedes-Benz EQA, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, BYD Sealion 7, and others in this class, each targeting buyers in the same premium electric SUV segment.
Verdict
The Volvo EX30 looks set to be one of the most important launches for the brand in India. Combining stylish Scandinavian design, a tech-loaded and sustainable interior, strong performance credentials, and a competitive 474 km claimed range, it has the potential to become Volvo's volume driver in the EV space. But, there are a few trade-offs accompanying this entry-level hatch in terms of space when compared to other rivals and it would be interesting to see how it fares againts them in real life. If the company manages to deliver on its expected sub-Rs. 45 lakh pricing, the EX30 could be the perfect entry point for luxury EV buyers and may well carve out a strong foothold in the market, but with BMW iX1 not too far away in terms of pricing, it offers a pretty solid package as it is.
