Pros

Significantly upgraded feature set

The Mahindra XUV 7XO represents a substantial upgrade over the XUV700, especially in terms of features and in-cabin technology. With its new triple-screen layout, Dolby Vision-enabled infotainment, premium audio system, and a far more comprehensive ADAS and comfort package, the 7XO feels clearly aligned with what today's buyers prioritise most-advanced features and a high-tech cabin experience. Compared to the XUV700, the upgrade is immediately noticeable and positions the 7XO as a much more future-ready offering for feature-focused audiences.

Thunderous Performance From Both Engines

Performance remains one of the XUV 7X0's biggest strengths. By retaining the proven petrol and diesel powertrains from the XUV700, Mahindra ensures class-leading output and strong real-world drivability. The 2.0-litre turbo-petrol stands out as one of the most powerful engines in the segment, delivering effortless acceleration and confident highway performance, while the 2.2-litre diesel offers excellent torque for both city use and long-distance cruising. With multiple states of tune, smooth manual and automatic gearbox options, and the added capability of AWD with selectable drive modes, the XUV 7X0 delivers a performance package that is both versatile and genuinely engaging to drive.

Extremely Efficient Diesel Engine

Impressive highway efficiency despite being fully loaded, as our top-spec AX7 L variant with the 6-speed torque converter delivered a real-world average of 17.3 kmpl while cruising at 110 km/h on cruise control, underlining the diesel's long-distance touring capability. Moreover, power is readily available with a gentle press of the throttle, and the SUV can cruise effortlessly at speeds well beyond 180 km -not that we recommend it, but it certainly highlights the strong performance reserves of this engine.

New Suspension Set-up Conquers Various Terrains With Ease

Mahindra's new DaVinci Damping suspension makes a noticeable difference in the XUV 7XO. Even on broken and uneven roads, the SUV remains impressively comfortable, soaking up potholes and sharp bumps without unsettling the cabin. At the same time, it feels stable and confidence-inspiring at speed, with good body control and predictable handling-making the XUV 7XO easy and reassuring to drive in all conditions.

Excellent Visibility and Light Steering

The Mahindra XUV 7XO feels surprisingly easy to drive for its size, as excellent all-round visibility combined with a light and responsive steering setup makes city commuting, tight parking situations, and everyday manoeuvres feel effortless, while also reducing driver fatigue during longer journeys.

Outstanding Audio System - 16 Speaker Harman Kardon

The XUV 7XO features a 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system with Dolby Atmos and VENUESAPES Live, offering adaptive sound environments that can transform the cabin into a stadium, concert hall, or a private theatre. Based on our testing, this is not just one of the best audio setups in the segment, but among the finest available in any car under Rs 50 lakh, delivering an outstanding and genuinely immersive listening experience.

Cons

Still Miss On Some Features

The Tata Safari, being a direct rival, offers certain features on its petrol variants that the XUV 7XO surprisingly misses out on, such as rear fog lamps, a camera washer, terrain response modes, and a digital inside rear-view mirror. These additions give the Safari a slight edge in terms of functional and convenience-focused equipment, especially for buyers who prioritise all-round feature completeness in a premium SUV.

Petrol Engine Is Very Thirsty

The 2.0-litre turbo-petrol impresses with strong power delivery and excellent refinement, but it is extremely thirsty. Even on the highway, at a steady 80-90 km/h, it struggles to deliver more than 10-11 kmpl, while in city driving conditions, fuel efficiency can drop below 8 kmpl. As a result, it makes more sense for buyers who prioritise performance over running costs.

No Sliding Function For Rear Seats

XUV 7XO

The second-row seat remains fixed with no sliding function, which continues to limit flexibility for balancing passenger comfort and third-row space even in this updated version. That said, it does recline, but competition in the segment offers more flexibility. This makes the cabin feel slightly less adaptable for families that frequently switch between passenger and luggage priorities.

Last Row Is Best For Kids

The third row is best suited for kids or occupants under 5 feet 8 inches, as adults tend to sit with knees raised due to the low seat base and limited legroom. Overall space is restricted, making the last row usable for short journeys but not comfortable for everyone. As a result, the third row is best used as additional luggage space when not required for seating, offering better practicality than long-distance comfort for adults.

Verdict

The Mahindra XUV 7XO is a feature-rich and performance-focused upgrade over the XUV700, offering strong engines, excellent highway comfort, and standout in-cabin tech. While a few omissions and limited third-row flexibility remain, it is still a compelling choice for buyers prioritising features, performance, and long-distance touring ability.
