KEY HIGHLIGHTS
- Kwid is equipped with 8-inch of infotainment screen
- Only car in its segment to come with rear parking camera
- 2 airbags as standard is a drawback
If the UK has the Mini Cooper, then we have the Renault Kwid. This small car has been on sale in India since 2015, maintaining the same design all these years. It was specifically designed for the Indian market and received a tremendous response before the COVID period. However, its sales have been overtaken by larger cars, and the entire segment it competes in is slowly dying.
That said, there are still people for whom this car meets their needs. Here, we take a look at the key features of the Kwid, along with a brief comparison with its rivals. Let's get started, and in the meantime, don't forget to join the 91Wheels Whatsapp Channel for the latest automotive updates.

Renault Kwid
Multimedia System

This car is equipped with an 8-inch infotainment screen, which also supports wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The screen size feels just right for the car, and the user interface, even without these connectivity features, is incredibly easy to use. On the top-right corner, there's a rotary dial to control the speaker volume, and below it, a button to turn off the screen.
Variants Available:
This screen starts from the RXL(O) variant and goes all the way to the top.
Competitors Check:
The main rivals of the Kwid are the Maruti Alto K10 and the Maruti S-Presso. Both of these cars come with a 7-inch infotainment system, which Maruti calls 'SmartPlay Studio.'
Digital Instrument Cluster

Gone are the days when we used to see two decorative dials with sharp needles that would make our heartbeats race as they went uphill. Now, all cars come with a digital instrument cluster, and the Kwid too gets an LED one. It looks sleek, and all the information is easy to read, even in broad daylight. Plus, the Renault lettering at the top adds a premium touch.
Variants Available:
Standard across all variants.
Competitors Check:
Both the Maruti S-Presso and Alto K10 are equipped with a digital speedometer.
Rear View Camera

The Kwid takes care of the safety features and, despite taking up less than standard car space, it comes with a rearview camera. To add more, it also comes with guiding lines, giving the driver a clear idea of where the car is moving. Lastly, the overall quality of the screen is not great, but considering the price, it's acceptable.
Variants Available:
Only in the RXT and Climber variant.
Competitors Check:
The Maruti S-Presso and Alto K10 miss out on this feature and only have rear parking sensors.
Hill Start Assist

From a safety perspective, the Renault Kwid is well-equipped. It features ABS with EBD, traction control, TPMS, and an electronic stability program, along with hill start assist. This feature automatically applies the brakes for 3 seconds on steep roads, allowing the driver to press the throttle at the right moment for smooth acceleration. It's now a standard offering, and young drivers particularly appreciate it.
Variants Available:
This feature is available only with the AMT variant, starting from the RXL(O).
Competitors Check:
Only the S-Presso comes with hill hold assist in the AGS gearbox variants (Vxi+, and Vxi(O)+). The Alto K10 doesnt have it.
Features Missing In the Renault Kwid
- 6 Airbags - Despite coming with ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, TPMS, hill start assist, ESP, and traction control, the Kwid only comes with 2 airbags. On the other hand, Maruti has updated their complete lineup with 6 airbags as standard. So, Renault should do the same, as safety has become the number 1 priority for customers.
- Reverse Parking Sensors - The variants that get reverse parking sensors are RXE and RXL(O), while the variants above them feature a reverse parking camera. Strangely, parking sensors are omitted from the top two trims. So, you either get a camera or sensors. This should be fixed by the company.
- No 60/40 split - The Kwid boot space is 279L, but it can be expanded if the rear seats are folded down. People who own the Kwid are mostly solo travelers, and this setting will really help them, as after this, they can carry a lot of luggage.
Other notable features in Renault Kwid
- ORVM with turn indicators
- Dual tone flex wheels
- LED DRLs
- Tail lamps with LED light guides
- Dual Tone body colours
- Power Windows
- 12V power socket
- USB and aux-in ports

Verdict
Despite offering a great set of features and an AMT gearbox under the Rs 6 lakh price tag, this car isn't selling at all. The reason is simple: all people, including first-time buyers, are shifting to bigger cars, especially SUVs. This is why the highest-selling car in India is the Hyundai Creta, which once used to be the Maruti Alto. That said, nobody can deny the fact that this is a great little car..
