Volkswagen Taigun Facelift Exterior Design: Familiar Shape, Sharper Detailing

The overall silhouette of the Taigun facelift remains unchanged, which means the upright stance and compact proportions continue as before. However, the facelift introduces a more refined visual identity. At the front, the new model features a slimmer grille and redesigned LED headlamps. A connected DRL strip now runs across the grille and integrates an illuminated Volkswagen logo, adding a more premium touch. The bumper has also been reworked with cleaner lines and subtle inserts, giving it a sharper look compared to the older version.

From the side, there are no major structural changes, but the facelift gets newly styled alloy wheels that enhance its road presence. At the rear, the updates are more noticeable, with slimmer connected LED tail lamps and updated internal lighting elements. The bumper design has also been revised slightly for a cleaner finish.

Interior: Same Layout, New Elements

Inside the cabin, the basic layout remains largely identical to the earlier Taigun, which means it continues with its functional and driver-focused design. That said, the facelift introduces a refreshed cabin theme along with updated upholstery. The most significant change is the addition of a larger digital instrument cluster, which replaces the smaller unit in the older model, along with a refreshed infotainment screen with a more intuitive interface. The overall feel is slightly more modern, though the structure of the dashboard remains familiar. One of the key areas of improvement in the facelifted Taigun is the feature list. The updated model now includes a panoramic sunroof, which was missing in the earlier version and was often a point of criticism.

There are also new additions where the updated 10.1-inch touchscreen now supports an AI-based assistant, while the 10.25-inch digital driver display adds more functionality and better visuals. At the same time, several features from the previous model continue, including ventilated front seats, wireless smartphone connectivity, automatic climate control, and cruise control. Safety equipment also remains comprehensive, with multiple airbags, stability control, and other essential systems carried forward. However, it still misses out on rear massage seats like the Skoda Kushaq. Another omission includes a 360-degree, ADAS, and then some more when compared to the competition.

Engine & Gearbox: Same Engines, New Automatic Option

Mechanically, the Taigun facelift retains its existing engine lineup, which includes 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre turbo-petrol TSI units. The key update comes in the transmission department. The 1.0-litre engine now gets a new 8-speed automatic gearbox, replacing the earlier 6-speed unit. This change is expected to improve driving smoothness and efficiency. Meanwhile, the 1.5-litre engine continues with the same 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, along with its performance-oriented character.

As for the pricing, its still not out, but is expected around later this month. The pre-bookings are already underway at a token amount of Rs 11,000. As for its rivals, it directly tussles for the top spot against the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and other compact SUVs.

Verdict

The updated Volkswagen Taigun doesn't reinvent the formula but builds on it in meaningful ways. By addressing key gaps such as the absence of a panoramic sunroof and adding more tech, Volkswagen has made the SUV more competitive without altering its core character. For existing buyers, the changes may feel incremental, but for new customers, the facelifted version presents a more well-rounded and feature-rich package in the segment.
