Leading commercial vehicle manufacturer, Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) has announced that it has opened a Virtual Reality Centre (VRC) in Chennai. It is said to be the most innovative VRC that sets a unique benchmark for the Indian commercial vehicle Industry.
Currently, most commercial vehicle manufacturers are using VRCs to research and develop their products with the help of real-life simulations. In the case of DICV, its VRC has the term innovation all over it since it has the potential to take its R&D study a notch further.
Daimler India's VRC allows operators to conduct various checks virtually of the design and development aspects using their innovative digital medium that can be accessed with the help of joysticks and 3D goggles. The CV manufacturer stated that the new Virtual reality centre has the ability to transform its research and development and vehicle servicing procedures without the need for prototype vehicles, custom tools and a service bay.
Daimler India's VRC in Chennai has the best 3D Barco projector, a power wall, 3D goggles that track head movement, real-time tracking cameras that are advanced, and Virtual Reality software which has the capacity to interact with the design criteria via the navigational joysticks.
According to Satyakam Arya, MD and CEO, DICV is an already well established technological leader in the Indian market. With their new Virtual Reality Centre, the company plans to reinforce their position as innovators. "The VRC has the potential to make CV servicing and R&D considerably faster and cost-effective, We are excited to pass these benefits on to our customers in the form of affordable, high-tech, high-quality products and services.

Commenting on the new facility, Satyakam Arya added "Before a product goes to market, each new model must be evaluated based on how easy it is to service and maintain. The standard process is to develop a prototype version of the vehicle and then test how service technicians can access its parts and perform repairs. This process is repeated multiple times until the vehicle is fit to be mass-produced. The VRC will allow us to replace many of those prototype-building iterations with virtual modelling and testing. It will speed up the development process and free up resources for further enhancing our portfolio."
Also, this virtual reality provides opportunities to collaborate remotely. With the new VRC, there is no need for a physical model which means that DICV can now share the digital models with Daimler's colleagues all around the world. Now that the VRC has been introduced, the same design or model can be worked on simultaneously. This means that ideas in the form of advice can be shared without distance being a matter of concern.
Considering the fact that we are living in a period in which life is threatened by the pandemic, the VRC sits perfectly for the exchange of ideas via the digital medium which means social distancing guidelines will be followed and travel to office space will be reduced.

"This is another example of DICV benefitting from the global resources held by its parent company, Daimler Truck AG. We have access to over a century of technological expertise in CV manufacturing and collaborate with experts working in more than 35 locations around the world. This global heritage, combined with our proud Indian roots, gives us an unbeatable advantage," Arya concluded.
