The concerning rise of pollution level and carbon emission has been dangling over the national capital for a long time. Various efforts from the Delhi government have fallen short in controlling this pollution level. Now, the introduction of 1,500 electric buses might help in bringing down the emission levels by the Delhi government.

The CESL is a subsidiary of the EFSL scheme of supplying a total of 5,450 single-decker electric buses and 130-double decker electric buses pan India starting from 5 metro cities. These cities include Bangalore, Delhi, Surat, Kolkata, and Hyderabad.

This scheme has been further divided into two separate categories. The first one is the FAME-II category under which a total of 921 buses will be supplied and 579 buses under the non-FAME-II category. All of these electric buses will be AC and low-floor for passenger convenience.

DTC has already started setting up charging stations to back up the upcoming electric buses fleet. A total of 12 different depots have been finalized to accommodate the parking of these upcoming electric DTC buses. According to the report published by PTI, a total sum of Rs 319.45 Crore has been spent over the upgrade of the 1,500 electric bus fleet for the expansion of Delhi Transport Corporation.

The main aim of this electric vehicle shift is to conclude the alarming pollution levels in the capital. Delhi government is already committed to replacing the vehicles used by VIPs and higher officials with EV cars by 2023. This narrative will also help increase electric vehicle sales in the capital region.
