Honda-HPCL (Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited) has shaken hands via an official agreement for setting up battery swapping stations pan India. The new venture come alive by mid-2022 by providing battery swapping options for the EV owners.
The electric vehicle segment is growing at a very fast pace in India. With its fast growth, the EV support infrastructure is still behind the demand for EVs. The range anxiety and lack of battery charging options lead to limited use of EVs by the respective owners.

To eliminate this scarcity of EV infrastructure, Honda-HPCL has joined its hands in setting up battery swapping stations pan India. Honda has badged this venture of theirs as 'Battery as a service (BaaS)'. The main aim is to provide the battery swapping stations to the EV customers which would be made available at the HPCL outlets in major cities in the first wave.
This tie-up will aim the 3-wheeler EV owners like the electric rikshaws in its first leg. Later on with the expansion, two-wheeler EVs and four-wheeler EVs shall also be added to this program of battery swapping at HPCL outlets.

The consumers who will avail of this service can take their electric three-wheeler to the nearest HPCL outlet and exchange their discharged batteries with the fully-charged ones. This shall eliminate the range anxiety which remains a major problem among many EV owners; further helping in the reduction of EV ownership costs involved for the buyers.
These fully charged batteries are an initiative of the Honda Mobile Power Pack which the owners would easily accessible via a paid subscription. A strong battery-swapping station setup is being created for Bangalore which will, later on, expand pan India. This joint venture will help in achieving carbon neutrality as well as help government to achieve a greener future for India.
