Hyderabad Police has decided to auction the abandoned vehicles in the city. As per the records, there are over 2391 abandoned and unclaimed vehicles which are currently being lying with the Hyderabad police. Out of these, the police is currently planning to auction around 175 vehicles. The Hyderabad Police abandoned vehicles auction ist includes a number of vehicles ranging from a Honda Activa, Hero Splendor to Passion Pro, Bajaj Discover and other vehicles like a TVS Wego, Apache and the Honda Unicorn as well. For starters, all these vehicles will be disposed off by the Hyderabad Police via a public auction. However, the Police is also giving an opportunity to those who have any objection or want to claim ownership of any of the vehicle will is included in the list to appear before the department and file the required applications. The department has decided to give an opportunity to file these applications within a period of 6 months from the date of issue of the notice.

The Hyderabad Police is permitted to get rid of abandoned or unclaimed vehicles by way of public auction under Section 7 of Hyderabad Metropolitan Area Police Act 2004 r/w Sec 40 of Hyderabad City Police Act. The department has decided to sell the unclaimed and abandoned vehicles if there are no claims filled for these. The Hyderabad Police Department has also released a list of the vehicles, engine and chassis numbers and the police stations where the vehicles are kept so that the owners can approach and claim the vehicles.
The abandoned vehicles to be sold via the public auction include many two-wheelers and auto-rickshaws which have been impounded either due to some accident or some other crime. The department will be giving the owners enough time to file the claim application.
