Hyundai Motors, India's leading Korean automobile manufacturer introduced the all-new Aura compact sedan in the Indian market earlier this year. The sedan, which is based on the Grand i10 NIOS offers segment-first 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that is a good option for the enthusiasts. Hyundai will now offer the same 1.0-litre with the Grand i10 NIOS and it will be the first hot hatchback from the brand in the Indian market.
The Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS hot hatchback version will be revealed at the 2020 Auto Expo and the launch will happen in the coming months. It will be powered by the same 1.0-litre turbocharged engine that is available with the Venue and the Aura.
In the Grand i10 NIOS, the 1.0-litre turbocharged engine will produce the exact same power and torque output. It will generate a maximum of 100 PS and peak torque of 172 Nm. Since it will be aimed at the enthusiasts, only a 5-speed manual transmission will be available with the vehicle without any option for an automatic - this A/T, for example, is seen in the Venue compact SUV.
Currently, the NIOS is powered by a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine that generates a maximum power of 83 PS whereas, the Ford Figo, powered by a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine produces a maximum power 96 PS. The Grand i10 NIOS Turbo, when launched, will be quite an exciting car to drive. Hyundai may not do any cosmetic changes to the car since it already looks quite sporty. However, we would have loved to see an N-Power version of the vehicle that offers a sportier bumper and a roof-mounted spoiler. In all, that would have been a package to counter the likes of Tata Tiago JTP and the Volkswagen Polo GT.
It should be noted that the 1.0-litre engine option with the Aura offers a different, all-black cabin. We may get to see a different cabin in the variants of the Grand i10 NIOS that are powered by the 1.0-litre engine option. However, Aura 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol is only available with the higher end variants. We do expect Hyundai to launch the high-performance engine with the lower variants of the Grand i10 NIOS to make it accessible to everyone and affordable too.
