
With the COVID-19 becoming the talk of the town and country in lockdown, it took a toll on the auto industry. First was the discontinuation of BS4 vehicles where dealers and makers suffered losses. And then the outbreak of COVID-19 which put the country into lockdown. However, fast forward to May 2020, the government put an ease to the lockdown and the sales of Indian car improved and from Maruti to Toyota, we tell you all.
Maruti Suzuki
Sharing more details on the sales Indian car for May 2020 then first we have Maruti Suzuki. Being the largest carmaker in the country, the May sales came at a record high of 18,539 units. It is the highest in the lockdown but the lowest in the monthly sales if you observe right from January 2020.

Out of all the 18,539 units, 13,865 were sold in the domestic markets and 23 units sold to other OEMs (Baleno sold to Toyota). And the rest is export. When compared with May 2019 where Maruti saw total sales of 1,34,641 units, the 2020 May numbers are just peanuts.

Toyota
Coming towards the Toyota figures for May 2020 then they registered a total of 1,639 units only for the domestic markets as opposed to 13,066 units in May 2019. The March 2020 sales recorded were 7,023 units and knowing April was a drought month for most carmakers, they hope that the sales will jump in the coming months.
Hyundai
Hyundai India saw a total of 12,583 units totally. Out of that, 6,883 units are reserved for the Indian shores and the rest 5,700 units exported globally. The rise in demand is for the all-new Creta in diesel engine followed by 2020 Verna, Venue, Elite i20 and Grand i10 Nios.

Mahindra
Coming to another Indian carmaker, Mahindra private vehicle segment saw total sales of 3,867 units. Mahindra also discontinued the AWD and automatic variants of the popular XUV500. The carmaker is gearing itself for the launch of all-new Thar which is expected to launch in August 2020.

MG Motor
Sharing details on the MG Motor India which made its debut in 2019 with the Hector also sees a dip in sales. The domestic sales accounted for both ZS EV and Hector came at 710 units. This is because of the stricter production facility at MG production plant in Halol and the safety measures they are taking to ensure the safe delivery of vehicles.
