Mahindra surprised every one of us at the 2020 Auto Expo with their new series of mStallion T-GDI petrol engines. The smallest of the range - 1.2-litre mStallion turbo petrol is soon to be launched with the XUV300. Some new spy shots of the XUV300 on test have arrived and it is deemed to be the 1.2-litre T-GDI.
Mahindra also showcased the XUV300 Sportz at the 2020 Auto Expo and that was powered by the 1.2-litre mStallion engine, accompanied by body graphics and sporty inserts. Mahindra may launch the 1.2-litre GDI with the Sportz trim to take on the likes of the Hyundai Venue 1.0-litre turbo and soon to be launched Kia Sonet. India launch of the Mahindra XUV300 1.2-litre mStallion may happen this festive season.

The upcoming 1.2-litre mStallion engine will produce 130 PS and 230 Nm of torque between 1,500 to 3,750 rpm. The engine will be mated to a 6-speed manual transmission and we don't expect the option of automatic transmission anytime soon. Mahindra also offers the 1.5-litre diesel with the XUV300 which produces 115 BHP and 300 Nm of torque mated to a 6-speed manual and AMT box. Unlike other engines, Mahindra didn't increase the price of the BS6 diesel but the BS6 petrol prices were increased by Rs 20,000.

Reports also suggest that Mahindra will continue to offer the older 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine which produces 110 PS and 200 Nm of torque. The mStallion engine may only be launched in the Sportz trim. Other engines of the mStallion series which are 1.5-litre GDI and 2.0-litre GDI will pave their way to the Mahindra Marazzo and future SUVs from Mahindra. We will also see the 1.2-litre mStallion engine of the XUV300 in the Ford Ecosport later this year.
