The Maruti Alto, right from the start, was offered as a compact and affordable family car. To further enhance the overall practicality and convenience, Maruti soon launched the Alto Spin EPS and we would like to thank Sid as it is because of him that we have the Alto Spin brochure images with us. With this being said, ladies and gentlemen, tighten your seat belts as we are about to dive into the journey down the memory lane.

The Alto Spin was placed in the market as a compact family car which came with almost all the features which made it a highly VFM product. The Alto Spin had a subtle design language and unlink the Santro and the WagonR which were being appreciated at that time, it had a low-slung seating position. Overall, the simple and elegant design language of the Alto was liked by all age groups and the car turned out to be a huge success for the brand.

The interiors of the car were practical and spacious for its size. The Alto SPin EPS came with factory fitted AC, a large and functional instrument console, and a big boot. The brand claimed to have used high strength steel to make the cabin safer for the occupants in case of a crash. Apart from this, the two-spoke steering wheel was light to operate, all thanks to the newly introduced EPS, and driving this car in the compact spaces was an easy affair.

Powering the Alto Spin were two engine options. While the lower spec, LXi/ Spin LXi model came with a 796 cc motor, the VXi model was powered by a 1061 cc engine. The 768 cc, 3-cylinder engine produced 45 bhp @ 6000 rpm and 62 Nm @ 3000 rpm. On the other hand, the 1061 cc, 4-cylinder engine churned out 62 bhp @ 6000 rpm and 82 Nm @ 3500 rpm. Both these engines came mated to a 5-speed gearbox which was easy to use. The good thing about these engines was the supreme refinement and reliability that they had in addition to high fuel efficiency.
