Electric mobility is day by day gaining popularity in the Indian market. Every automotive manufacturer has either started manufacturing electric vehicles or are on the verge of starting it. The electric two wheelers are also in a win-win situation with the armed forces globally. Here is a popular Sun Ron Firefly that has been used for military airdrops.
Laura Thompson got an opportunity to join the soldiers at a drill that took place in France. When she was at the drill, she observed that there are several advantages of using lightweight and stealthy electric two-wheelers, especially motorcycles.
The bike seen with the soldiers is inherited with off-roading capabilities. With a peak power of 8hp, the bike was able to reach a top speed of 65-72 kmph. The e-bike is built on a tough platform with longer travelling suspensions and tires installed ready to fight all sorts of terrains.

The Sun Ron bikes are quite efficient and with lower heat and sound signatures, the bike has become an important resource for the military. Even revving the e-bike at full speed it will remain as silent as it is stagnant at its position.
To further reduce the sound of the motorcycle, upgradable belt kits are available like those of Gates Carbon Drive which replaces the chainset with a carbon-fibre reinforced belt that makes the bike more silent and violent.
This electric bike is super light and weighs just 47 kgs. That also became one of the reasons for the military soldiers to choose this bike. As lightweight bikes are best suited to them especially for aerial use, like parachute drops from helicopters and aeroplanes.

According to Captain Dan Lauder, One of the main reasons that we are interested in using motorbikes is because of the need for air portability and, in particular, airdrop. The good thing about such a small vehicle is that you can get it in the back of helicopters; you can underslung it from a helicopter; you can get several in the back of a plane, and then also, potentially youd be able to drop it from the back of a plane under a parachute.
Electric mobility is gaining popularity and this is not the first electric bike that has been used by the military. According to the reports, UAEs special operational forces tested the use of Zero Electric motorcycles that are mounted on Black Hawk helicopters for insertion of stealthy troops.
