
With the number of COVID-19 affected patients going up at a brisk rate, it is necessary to take precautions and actions to restrict the outspread of this virus. Keeping this in mind, the Tamil Nadu Government has spent around Rs 1.36 crores to help contain the spread of this virus and this project also includes the introduction of modified Royal Enfield bikes to sanitize congested areas and regions. Let us remind you that Tamil Nadu is currently second on the list of most COVID-19 cases in India.

The modified Royal Enfield bikes get a 9-L tank. This tank can store water mixed with a compressed air foam solution. The whole setup is used to spray chemicals on the roads to sanitize them. In addition, a public address system and police strobe lights have also been installed on these bikes.

A communication system fitted in these bikes helps the riders be in touch with each other. The RE bikes will help the Tamil Nade Fire and Rescue Services officials to sanitize congested lanes and regions easily as these bikes are easy to maneuver and are much more compact than the traditional sanitization vehicles. The government aims to sanitize around 45,000 localities across the state using these bikes.

Tamil Nadu chief minister, Mr. K. Palaniswami flagged off these bikes. and as per the government's plans, these bikes will be used for fire-fighting operations in congested localities once the COVID-19 pandemic is over.

Meanwhile, operations at the Royal Enfield's Oragadam, Thiruvottiyur, and Vallam Vadagal have also started. As per the government instructions, the brand is practicing all the necessary precautions to prevent the spread of the virus amongst the workers. However, the corporate offices of the brand are still close and the employees continue to work from home.
