
The decision to absolve private vehicles from paying the toll taxes was made by the state government of Madhya Pradesh to curb traffic jams at toll plazas.
Private car owners in Madhya Pradesh will be exempted from paying toll taxes, as per the decision of its State Government. Toll booths on all new and old roads that fall under the State Road Development Corporation are covered in this decision. The policy decision was led by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, was decided in order to curb traffic jams at toll plazas.
Around 200 roads were surveyed by the Public Works Department for the decision. As per this survey, the PWD found out that only 20% of tax levied is from private vehicles, the rest comes from commercial vehicles. With one-fifth of toll plaza collections, and their tendency to cause congestion, the state government decided to exempt them from toll-plaza wait-time.

The Principal Secretary of the State Transport, Mr. Neeraj Mandloi has confirmed that the proposal has been sent to the cabinet for approval. VIPs are usually exempted from paying toll taxes. The list includes the President, Vice President, Prime Minister, Ministers, and MPs. The list also covers judges, magistrates, central government secretaries, National Highway Authorities of India, Police, Fire, Ambulance, and Defence.
The State Road Development Corporation has built all 200 roads in Mp using the Build Operate and Transfer (BOT) method. As per this type of contract, the Government grants all 200 roads to a private company for a fixed time for maintenance and development purposes.
