Ford Motors Shifts Focus To EV, Forms New Company - India Entry Soon?

Ford Motors has reorganized its work in two separate manufacturing units making one unit specifically for EVs. Read the details down below.

Ford Motors is on an EV manufacturing spree. With their target of producing more than 2 million electric vehicles by 2026, Ford has divided their manufacturing into two separate portions.

One branch that will only deal with EV manufacturing will be called the 'Model E' resembling the name of the world's first mass-production car 'Model T'. The secondary unit will be called 'Ford Blue' which shall concentrate itself only on the internal combustion engine (petrol/diesel) vehicle production.

Ford has a target of achieving 2 million EVs by 2026 that will account for 50 per cent of its overall vehicle manufacturing globally. Currently, the electric vehicle production from Ford contributes to a healthy one-third of total vehicle manufacturing internationally, which shall rise by the newly formed 'Model E' branch.

On the other hand, Ford Blue will deal with the regular ICE vehicle production. Ford also claimed that both of these companies will work independently, only sharing necessary technical advancements and technology. Ford says that by the next year 2023, all the three companies i.e. the Model E, Ford Blue, and Ford Pro (Ford's commercial vehicle branch) shall publish their individual reports and progresses.

With electric vehicles like the Ford F-15 and the Mustang Mach-E, Ford has already witnessed a strong demand for EVs. The expansion plan for EVs will go ahead a step further via the Model E company.

Recently, Ford has exited the production of its passenger cars from India. Even with the end of production, Ford has been consistently receiving strong demand for their previously sold products in the Indian market. As the Indian market is shifting towards electric vehicles, Ford's 'Model E' could become a stronghold in the upcoming future in the Indian domestic EV market as well.

Although, no official statement has come out from Ford regarding their comeback to India the Indian government PLI scheme and a recent focus on EV manufacturing might attribute to Ford's return to India soon with their EV products range.
