
Suzuki EV plant will be set up in Gujarat and will produce the first made-in-India EV SUV which will roll out by 2025. Read all the details below.
As most of the big names in the automotive manufacturing world have started developing their EV portfolio; India's top selling and most trustable car brand Maruti will soon be entering the EV world. Suzuki EV plant is going to set up soon in Gujarat as the new treaty of worth INR 10,440 crores has been signed between the Gujarat government and the Japanese car maker.
At the India-Japan Economic Forum in New Delhi, Suzuki singed the Memorandum of Understanding between the Gujarat government and the car maker itself.

This new MOU stands for setting up a Suzuki-Toyota joint EV production plant and even a separate EV battery plant will manufacture simultaneously for future needs. This EV plant is estimated to be completed and get fully functional by the end of the year 2025. This new EV production plant will also become the house for the very first made-in-India electric SUV by Maruti which shall be sold globally.

The first Suzuki-Toyota electric vehicle will be this mid-size SUV which shall directly rival the likes of MG ZS EV and it shall be larger than the Hyundai Creta in terms of dimensions as well. Suzuki and Toyota shall be using this production facility for their further shared product line up as per their agreement signed before. This shall help in boosting the sales and increase the trust about EVs among the domestic customers. Battery production plant on the other hand will help enhancing the availability of the battery's which further shall lead to the reduced maintenance costs and more spare part availability among the future customers.

This first electric model is codenamed as YY8 and it'll be a joint model which shall be developed by Suzuki and Toyota simultaneously. Suzuki's priority is to export this model via this soon to setup EV plant as the launch of this model is scheduled for 2024 in Europe. For Indian market, this model shall enter sometime in the year 2025.
Suzuki will setup 3 different plants under this MOU signed with Gujarat government. The first will be the BEV electric vehicle production plant worth INR 3,100 Cr, the second will be a BEV battery production plant worth INR 7,300 Cr, and the third will be a vehicle recycling plant worth INR 45 Cr.
