BYD Shark Latest Update
Last Updated On 24th June'24: Exterior: As the name suggests, the BYD Shark gets its design inspiration from its namesake marine being, which is evident in the design of the vertical LED projector headlamps with C-shaped LED DRLs and a connected LED light bar between them. Beneath the light bar, the wide and aggressive-looking grille mimics the open mouth of a shark. The BYD Shark has an upright stance with sporty-looking 18-inch wheels and body cladding on the side profile, with the rear having vertical tail lamps with LED connected light bar across the deck lid.
Interior and features: The cabin of the BYD Shark has an all-black cabin with contrast red accents around the AC vents. The leather-wrapped cabin of the BYD Shark looks modern, with the 10.25-inch full-TFT instrument console behind the flat-bottom steering wheel and a 12.8-inch rotating touchscreen infotainment system in the middle. The cabin also has features like a 12-inch head-up display, 540-degree panoramic view camera, NFC digital key, wireless charger, power-adjustable and ventilated front seats and more.
Engine and transmission:The BYD Shark is globally available with a petrol-electric plug-in hybrid powertrain, which is a combination of a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, a 29.58kWh LFP blade battery and two electric motors. This PHEV powertrain's combined maximum power output is 435 bhp, enabling the Shark to go from 0-100 kmph in 5.7 seconds and travel for 100 km in the pure EV mode. Due to the dual-motor configuration, the BYD Shark has an all-wheel drive system on offer as standard, with the pickup having an independent double wishbone suspension setup at both front and rear.
Launch Time:Since pickup trucks comprise a niche category in the Indian market and there is almost negligible demand for PHEV pickup trucks in the country, the BYD Shark might take some time before hitting showroom floors.
Rivals:Currently, there is no petrol-electric hybrid pickup truck in the Indian market. However, if BYD launches the Shark here in India, it will compete with diesel-powered competitors like the Toyota Hilux and Isuzu V-Cross.
Price:BYD currently has no plans to bring Shark into the Indian car market. However, if it happens in the future, expect the BYD Shark to be priced between Rs 30 and 35 lakh. Like other premium offerings from BYD, the Shark might also arrive in India through the CBU route, which explains the high price positioning.
