Mahindra XUV 500 is a very popular SUV in India. The XUV 500 is one of the most awarded SUVs in the country. Its sheer dimensions and hulking road presence gives won it plenty of admirers. The XUV 500 was once the flagship SUV from the house of Bombay-based Indian Utility Vehicle manufacturer in the country. However, now the Alturas G4 is honoured with the tag of Mahindra's Flagship SUV. Recently, the company has launched the BS6-compliant Mahindra XUV 500 in India. Mahindra XUV 500 was first launched in the year 2011. At that time, it was one of the most anticipated cars from the Mahindra stable. The XUV 500 highly impressed the buyers but there were minor glitches too. Mahindra addressed all the feedback from the buyers and the experts and launched the XUV 500 Facelift in 2015. The facelifted XUV 500 got a ton of cosmetic upgrades and some feature add-ons too. It is a bread and butter product for Mahindra and so the company keeps updating it sporadically. In 2018, the XUV 500 was given another facelift and this made it better than ever.

2020 Mahindra XUV 500: Looks and Colour Options

The BS6-compliant 2020 Mahindra XUV 500 was launched recently in India. It gets mechanical updates to meet the new stringent BS6 emission norms. Talking about its aesthetic appeal, so the XUV 500 looks butch and handsome. Upfront, it gets a big chrome-embellished grille flanked by large headlamp units. The headlamps are projector units and it also gets integrated LED DRLs. The fog lamps are positioned on the lower part of the bumper with chrome accents. The SUV gets a lot of chrome accents on the front fascia which further enhances its premium appeal.

The XUV 500 is a long SUV and its sheer dimensions can be seen from the side profile. It gets machined-cut dual-tone 18-inch alloy wheels and chrome strips on the lower part of the window line. The SUV also gets plush-fitted roof-rails and large wing mirrors. At the rear, it gets a high-mounted spoiler, chrome touches and dual exhausts. Overall, the XUV 500 is really a good looking SUV and highly appeals to the Indian SUV buyers. The XUV 500 is offered in seven different colour schemes. These are Crimson Red, Mystic Copper, Lake-side Brown, Volcano Black, Pearl White, Opulent Purple and Moondust Silver.

2020 Mahindra XUV 500: Engine and Transmission

The new 2020 Mahindra XUV 500 is powered by a BS6-compliant 2.2-litre mHawk155 diesel engine. This oil-burner is boosted by the sixth-generation electronically controlled Variable Geometry Turbocharger (eVGT). The diesel motor generates 154 PS of power at 3750 RPM and 360 Nm of peak torque between 1750-2800 RPM. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. Earlier, it used to get AWD and automatic transmission too but that has been ditched in the BS6 model. However, Mahindra is expected to re-introduce these gizmos in the XUV 500 really soon.

The Mahindra XUV 500 gets a very rich cabin with plush interior. It gets tan-leather seats which really look very premium. The XUV 500 is a very spacious SUV and it can seat up to seven people at once. Taking the centre stage of the XUV 500's dashboard is a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system. This system is compatible with both Android Auto as well as Apple CarPlay and it also gets Mahindra's Blue Sense application connectivity. Some other features of the SUV include an electric sunroof, automatic climate control, pillar-mounted rear AC vents, Arkamys 6-speaker sound system and many more. The safety features include up to 6 airbags, all-wheel disc brakes, ABS with EBD, ESP with Rollover Mitigation, Tyre-Tronics, Hill Hold Assist, Hill Descent Control, etc.

The 2020 Mahindra XUV 500 BS6 is sold in four variants: W5, W7, W9 and W11 (O) with prices starting at Rs. 13.20 lakhs and go up to Rs. 17.70 lakhs. All prices stick to Ex-showroom Delhi. The XUV 500 rivals a lot of SUVs in the Indian market which includes the Tata Harrier, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Hector, etc. Finally, talking about the verdict, so if you want a big fat muscular SUV with the robust build quality, sheer road presence, lots of features and a good diesel engine, then you should definitely consider buying the Mahindra XUV 500.
