Back in the days when hatchbacks were often looked upon as compact and affordable vehicles, Hyundai introduced the concept of a premium hatchback with the launch of the i20. Since then, we have a number of premium hatches coming to the market but the i20 still remains one of the best sellers. With this being said, the brand has updated the model and how good is the new 2020 Hyundai i20 BS6? Let's take a look.
Exteriors
Looking at the i20 reveals that the car not only looks elegant and beautiful, but certain elements like lowe bumper lip and the large grille upfront do spice up the things a little. The side profile of the car remains to the initial model but the new five-spoke wheels are a big departure from the earlier multi-spoke wheels which did impress us with the design. The rear of the does look a little busy and has a lot of elements which makes it quite appealing.

Interiors
One of the strongest points about the i20 is its in-cabin experience and comfort levels. The dashboard gets a nice and practical layout with everything being well within the range of the driver. The seats of the car are comfortable but the space at the rear could have been better. People used to higher seating too will appreciate a higher seat placement. Apart from that, the cabin of the i20 remains one of the best in the segment.
Engine, Gearbox, and Performance
The 2020 Hyundai i20 BS6 is now powered by a 1.2-L VTVT engine that churns out 83 ps and 113 Nm of peak torque output. This engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and has impressed everyone with its supreme refinement and smoothness. However, considering the weight of the car, we would have appreciated if the brand offered a more powerful engine. The diesel is no more on offer and for the upcoming 2020 model, new engines will added to the line up.
Features
All the modern gizmos and other features are available with the i20. In addition to the touchscreen infotainment system, the car also features smart keyless entry and push-button start, wireless charging, electronically adjustable and foldable ORVMs, automatic climate control and rear defogger. In all, the i20 remains one of the most heavily equipped vehicles in terms of features and equipment on offer.
Price and Rivals
The 2020 Hyundai i20 BS6 gets its rivals in the form of Maruti Baleno, VW Polo, Honda Jazz, and Tata Altroz. The price of the car starts from Rs 6.49 lakh for the base, Magna+ variant.

The Hyundai i20 still remains of the best cars not only in its segment but also under Rs. 10 lakh bracket.
