Aprilia has recently launched the all-new 2021 Aprilia SXR 160 BS6 in the Indian market. The new SXR 160 BS6 is the first maxi-scooter from Aprilia in the country. However, it isn't the only maxi-styled scooter on sale in India as we also have the Suzuki Burgman Street 125. The new Aprilia SXR 160 was first showcased in India earlier this year at the 2020 Auto Expo and it grabbed everyone's attention. Earlier, it was about to be launched in India by June 2020. However, all thanks to the coronavirus pandemic, its launch was delayed. But now, it has been finally launched in the country. So, today we have for you the First Look Review of the new 2021 Aprilia SXR 160 BS6.
The new Aprilia SXR 160 is a very handsome-looking maxi-scooter. Starting with the front fascia, so at the front, it gets large twin LED headlamps with LED DRLs. Then, moving to the side, one can see that it gets a large scooped-out footboard area, a long and comfortable single-piece seat, etc. At the rear, it gets LED tail lamps and unique split grab rails that have been neatly integrated to the body. Talking about the colour options, so the all-new 2021 Aprilia SXR 160 is available in four colour variants. They are Matt Blue, Matt Black, Glossy Red and Glossy White. It features sporty body graphics too and all in all, the new Aprilia SXR 160 looks really good.

The new 2021 Aprilia SXR 160 is powered by a BS6-compliant 160cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled, three-valve, four-stroke, SOHC, fuel-injected engine. This new motor churns out 11 PS of maximum power at 7100 RPM and also 11 Nm of peak torque at 6000 RPM. The engine comes mated to a CVT. This is the same engine that does its duty in the Aprilia SR 160 ABS too. Both these new Aprilia scooters are currently the most powerful BS6-compliant gearless scooters on sale in the Indian market. Talking about fuel-economy, so one can expect around 30-35 kmpl of mileage from this maxi-scooter in real-world riding conditions.
The Aprilia SXR 160 shares its underpinnings with the Aprilia SR 160 ABS. It is based on a tubular chassis with an open single cradle frame. This all-new maxi scooter from Aprilia rides on fat 12-inch tubeless tyres. Both the tyres of the scooter are of the exact same dimension and they measure 120/70-12 in size. The SXR 160 also gets new five-spoke alloy wheels which look really cool. Now, talking about the braking system, so at the front, it gets a large 220 mm disc brake while at the rear, it gets a 140 mm drum unit. Also, as the Aprilia SXR 160 is a 125cc+ scooter, it gets a single-channel anti-lock braking system (ABS) too to comply with the Indian government's new safety norms for two-wheelers.
The suspension duties on the newly launched Aprilia SXR 160 maxi-scooter are performed by telescopic forks at the front, while at the rear, it gets an adjustable spring-loaded mono-shock absorber. Talking about features, so the new Aprilia SXR 160 is quite feature-loaded too. It gets a large 5.7-inch all-digital instrument cluster that displays a ton of information including speedometer, average fuel-economy, clock, battery voltmeter, etc. It gets an optional smartphone connectivity feature too and the instrument cluster can be paired to your smartphone with the help of Bluetooth. Also, it needs to be mentioned that the Aprilia SXR 160 is the only scooter currently on sale in India that displays a tachometer.
The all-new 2021 Aprilia SXR 160 BS6 has been recently launched in India. It has been priced at Rs. 1.26 lakhs, Ex-showroom Delhi. The bookings for this maxi-scooter are already open and you can book it online by visiting the company's official website or by visiting your nearest Aprilia dealership by paying a token amount of just 5,000 rupees. The new Aprilia SXR 160 does not have any direct rivals in India, but, indirectly it rivals against the Suzuki Burgman Street 125 BS6. Finally, talking about the verdict, so if you are out in the market and you want a powerful gearless maxi-scooter that can offer you great comfort, lots of features, funky looks and can do touring too, then you should seriously consider buying the new Aprilia SXR 160 BS6. However, the only condition is that you should not have any budget constraints as it is quite expensive.
