Honda CR-V First Look Review - No-nonsense Family SUV

Honda CR-V has been a very popular moniker, both in India and around the globe. The fourth generation of the CR-V was very popular in India and known for its reliable and peppy i-VTEC motor. The fifth generation of the CR-V was launched in 2018 and it has been doing pretty well for Honda. Honda CR-V is the preferred choice of buyers of the segment looking for a great blend of comfort, performance and reliability. But after two years, is the CR-V still a great family SUV? We answer that and also share all the details in the Honda CR-V first look review.

Honda CR-V First Look Review - Exteriors

The Honda CR-V is a stunning looking SUV from the outside. The proportions are big and it looks very stylish - be it the high-set bonnet or all LED lights. The dimensions of the Honda CR-V are massive - 4592 mm of length, 1855mm of width and 1679mm of height. The CR-V sports some styling elements which makes it even sportier.

The Front gets all-LED headlights which are merged with the Honda signature chrome grille. The grille sports a lot of chrome and you can't mistake it for any other car. The lower part of the bumper gets LED fog lights and silver garnish down below. The side profile of the CR-V is treated by the rising chrome beltline and stunning 18-inch machine-cut alloy wheels. The rear profile of the CR-V has always been the highlight - sporting high-set vertical taillights. Some say that the rear profile is inspired by Volvo cars but it is unmistakably Honda.

Honda CR-V First Look Review - Interiors and Features

Honda CR-V Review interiors

The interiors of the Honda CR-V are impeccable. The fit and finish levels are great and some features on offer are segment first. It is worth noting that as Honda has discontinued the diesel trims of the CR-V, it is only a 5-seater offering with 2.0-litre petrol. The interior layout of the CR-V is impressive, the dashboard comes with stitched leather and the touchscreen sits in the middle. The ride-by-wire technology, which was segment-first, is no more available as the CVT gets conventional shifter.

Honda CR-V Review side

Talking about the features, the Honda CR-V is loaded with features. It comes boasted with features like digital driver's display, 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple Car Play, lane watch camera, front parking sensors, dual-zone climate control, electronic parking brake, panoramic sunroof, walk away auto lock, 7-airbags, ABS, Agile Handling Assist (AHA), power-adjustable driver's seat among other features.

Honda CR-V First Look Review - Engine and Performance

Honda CR-V Review

At the global level, Honda offers multiple engine options with the CR-V including hybrid engines also. But in India, we had two engine options - 1.6-litre diesel and 2.0-litre i-VTEC petrol engine. Recently, Honda ditched the diesel mill due to the BS6 norms while the petrol was BS6-ready since its launch. The 2.0-litre petrol engine produces 154 PS and 189 Nm of torque, mated to a CVT box. The fuel efficiency is rated at 14.4 km/l and the petrol trim lacks paddle shifters. The diesel engine used to come with all-wheel drive whereas the petrol sticks to the front-wheel-drive layout. Honda might get back the BS6 compliant engine later this year.
