Triumph Scrambler 400X, New 350cc First Ride Impression

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • New 350 cc Engine.
  • Power reduced by 3 PS.
  • Torque reduced by 5 Nm.
  • Price cut down by 11K.

Triumph Scrambler 400X has updated its lineup by replacing the 400cc engine with a new 350cc unit. This change comes in response to revised GST norms, which previously categorized the bike as a luxury good with 40% GST. With the new 350cc engine, the GST has been reduced to 18%, making the motorcycle more affordable. I rode the Scrambler 400X with the new 350cc engine, and here are my first impressions. Engine First Impressions

The Scrambler 400X with the new 350cc engine doesnt feel significantly different to ride. It still delivers a similar punch as before. On paper, power has dropped from 40 PS to 37 PS, and torque from 37 Nm to 32 Nm, but the real-world riding experience remains largely unchanged.

However, the reduction in engine size does slightly affect NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness). Low-end torque and mid-range performance remain strong, but beyond 6,000 rpm, the bike begins to exhibit mild vibrations. These are manageable in city riding but can become noticeable on long highway rides at sustained high speeds.

The engine still produces a pleasing exhaust note, retaining its characteristic thump, which adds to the riding experience.

Brakes

The Scrambler 400X comes equipped with disc brakes on both wheels along with ABS. However, braking performance still lacks the confidence needed for sudden stops at high speeds. The initial bite could be improved to enhance overall safety and rider confidence.

Suspension & Ergonomics

Triumph has retained the same suspension setup as before, and the ride quality remains unchanged. Since the bikes weight is also the same, handling characteristics feel familiar.

The rider continues to enjoy a commanding riding position, and there are no changes in design or dimensions. Visually and ergonomically, it remains identical to the earlier 400cc version.

Price

With the new 350cc engine, Triumph has reduced the price of the Scrambler 400X by Rs. 11,000. The earlier price was Rs. 1.70 lakh (ex-showroom), while the new price stands at Rs. 1.59 lakh (ex-showroom).

Verdict

The new 350cc version of the Scrambler 400X retains its fun and usable performance while benefiting from a lower price. Although minor vibrations at higher revs and average braking slightly affect the experience, it still stands out as a capable and enjoyable scrambler offering better overall value.
