Pros & Cons of KTM 390 Adventure

• What we admire in this bike

  • The new design language is inspired by the 1390 Super Duke.
  • The off-road version looks closer to a rally-spec bike.
  • The addition of new long-travel suspension.
  • Addition of electronic rider aids such as cruise control, cornering ABS etc.

• What could have been better

  • Lack of cruise control, cornering ABS and ride modes on the road-biased 390 Adventure X.
  • The 390 Adventure X also lacks adjustable suspension.

Design and Feel 4.5

• The new KTM 390 Adventure now comes in three distinct personalities -
  Adventure X (road-biased), Adventure Standard (balanced ADV), and Adventure R (hardcore off-road).
• The design language is inspired by KTM’s bigger adventure motorcycles like the 1390 Super Adventure. It features a tall stance, split LED headlamp setup, and a rally-style windscreen.
• The standard 390 Adventure looks closer to a rally-spec bike with its tubeless spoke rims and higher stance, while the 390 Adventure X looks more approachable with its lower seat height and alloy wheel setup.
• The newly introduced 390 Adventure R takes things further with a much taller stance, 21/18-inch spoked wheels and extreme off-road proportions, making it the most aggressive-looking 390 Adventure yet.
• All versions receive an underbelly exhaust, giving the bike a cleaner side and rear three-quarter profile.
• The rear section features sharp body panels and a neatly integrated tail lamp that maintains a clean and purposeful design.

• The dimensions of the new KTM Adventure 390 remain similar to the outgoing motorcycle in terms of length and width, but the stance varies significantly across variants.
• The Adventure X and Standard models retain a balanced height and width that make them manageable in city traffic despite their ADV proportions. However, short riders may find them slightly tall while riding in slow-moving traffic.
• The Adventure R variant feels physically larger due to its taller suspension, higher seat height, and 21/18-inch wheel setup, making it look and feel like a proper rally motorcycle. While it is still nimble for its size, it is clearly designed more for trails than city commuting.

Engine & Performance 4.2

• All three variants of the 390 Adventure share the same 399cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine borrowed from the 390 Duke, producing 45.3 bhp at 8500 rpm and 39 Nm at 6500 rpm.
• It gets a smaller cylinder head, a new airbox, and revised fuel injectors for improved efficiency and refinement.
• Paired to a 6-speed gearbox, the new 390 Adventure finally receives a bi-directional quickshifter as standard across variants.
• The Adventure R uses the same engine tune but benefits from off-road-focused ride modes and electronics calibration, making power delivery more controllable on loose surfaces like gravel and sand.

• The feature list of the KTM 390 Adventure range is among the most impressive in its segment.
• The standard 390 Adventure becomes the first in its class to offer cruise control, along with cornering traction control, three ride modes, and cornering ABS.
• The Adventure R adds Offroad Ride Mode and Offroad ABS, allowing controlled rear-wheel slip and rear-wheel lock-up for technical trail riding. These settings are retained even after engine shutdown.
• Common features across all variants include: Adjustable levers, Slip-and-assist clutch, 5-inch TFT display, Bluetooth connectivity, Turn-by-turn navigation, Call & SMS alerts, and USB Type-C charging port

Ride & Handling 5

• Ride and handling continue to be a strong point of the Adventure 390 lineup.
• The fully adjustable suspension on the Standard and R variants allows riders to achieve a balance between sporty handling and comfort. The Adventure X offers a more road-friendly suspension tune for everyday usability.
• The Adventure R excels in rough terrain, allowing riders to tackle deep slush, broken trails, and rocky surfaces confidently while standing on the foot-pegs.
• The high-set handlebar and upright ergonomics transform the bike into a proper off-road machine.
• Despite its tall height and weight, the Adventure 390 remains easy to control and predictable, both on highways and trails.

• The new 390 Adventure is built on a new split trellis frame, and it also  finally receives long-travel suspension as standard in both models.
• The standard 390 Adventure gets 43mm WP Apex USD open-cartridge forks with 200mm of travel and 30-click fully-adjustable compression and rebound damping. The rear makes use of a WP Apex monoshock with 205mm of travel, 20-click rebound damping and 10-click preload adjustability.
• The road-biased 390 Adventure X gets 43mm WP Apex USD forks with 200mm of travel, along with a preload-adjustable WP Apex monoshock with 205mm of travel. 
• Both bikes make use of a 320mm disc up front with floating dual-piston callipers, and a 240mm disc at the rear with a single-piston calliper. Both bikes also get a 14.5-litre fuel tank, and a ground clearance of 227mm.

  Great Highway Performance
  The bike is really good, especially when maneuvering on highways. Its lightweight flickability is a bonus, and the firm suspension helps on gravel or bumpy roads. The only compromises are the mileage and city rides, as it tends to get quite hot in traffic.
