Aprilia has given its SXR scooter a proper makeover. On 1 October 2026, the Italian brand's India arm revealed the SXR GT, a two-model lineup that moves the SXR from a sporty city scooter toward something you could comfortably take on a weekend ride. There are two versions, powered by a 125cc and a 175cc engine. Bookings are open at Aprilia dealerships nationwide, though pricing hasn't been announced yet.
Bigger Wheels

The most visible change is at the wheels. The SXR GT rolls on 14-inch units, which Aprilia says is a first for the segment. Larger wheels generally help a scooter hold its line and absorb broken tarmac better, which matters more on a highway stretch than in a gully. The rear gets a five-step adjustable hydraulic shock absorber to fine-tune the ride, while the front uses a telescopic fork.
Up front sits Aprilia's tripod-style LED headlamp, now a signature of its scooter family. The bodywork has also been refreshed with new graphics across both models.
Two Engines Options

Both engines are air-cooled, single-cylinder, four-stroke units with a SOHC, three-valve head and electronic fuel injection. They are BS6 OBD-II Stage B compliant and E20-ready.
SXR GT 125 | SXR GT 175 | |
|---|---|---|
Displacement | 124.45 cc | 174.7 cc |
Bore × stroke | 52 × 58.6 mm | 60 × 60.6 mm |
Max power | 7.8 kW (about 10.5 hp) @ 7,400 rpm | 9.76 kW (about 13.1 hp) @ 7,200 rpm |
Max torque | 10.4 Nm @ 6,200 rpm | 14.14 Nm @ 6,000 rpm |
The 175 is the headline act. Aprilia calls it the largest engine in the segment, and its extra torque, arriving at lower revs, should make highway cruising less of a strain.
Features: the 175 pulls ahead
This is where the two models separate most clearly.
SXR GT 175
- 5-inch TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity
- Music and call management, plus navigation with turn-by-turn directions
- Extra handlebar switches to operate the system
- ABS on the front wheel, with a 220 mm front disc
- New muffler with integrated heat shield
SXR GT 125
- 5-inch LCD instrument display
- CBS braking with a 220 mm front disc
- 140 mm rear drum brake (the 175 uses the same rear unit)
Colour options
Aprilia has introduced six new colour-and-graphics combinations in total.
- SXR GT 125: Matte Black, Glossy Azzurro, Glossy White
- SXR GT 175: Metallic Blue, Matte Black, Matte Green. The 175 also gets footboard graphics inspired by Aprilia's GT lineup.
Touring Accessories
To back up the "GT" tag, Aprilia will sell touring-oriented extras separately. These include a manually adjustable windscreen, a crash guard, a perimeter kit, and a top box.
What Aprilia says
Diego Graffi, Chairman and MD of Piaggio Vehicles Pvt Ltd, said the brand sees room for the premium scooter market in India to grow as buyers look for a more distinctive ownership experience. According to him, the SXR GT is meant to blend Aprilia's performance heritage and Italian styling with the practicality Indian riders need day to day.
The Bottom line
The SXR GT is Aprilia's attempt to make a scooter that works for the weekday commute and the Sunday highway run alike. The 14-inch wheels, the larger 175cc engine, and the connected TFT display are its strongest cards. The missing price is the big unknown, since it will decide whether the SXR GT stays a niche premium choice or becomes a serious option for scooter buyers stepping up.
