TVS Jupiter Detailed Review

  • Jupiter Looks and Colour Options

The TVS Jupiter is a good looking scooter. It doesn’t get too many fancy elements and looks like a conventional scooter, which is a good thing as it targets the mainstream audience. The TVS Jupiter is available in India in multiple variants and while the base variant gets steel wheels with a regular halogen headlamp, the top-spec variants get a lot of additional goodies. The mid-spec ZX variant of the TVS Jupiter gets an all-LED headlamp that offers good illumination. The ZX variant of the scooter also gets five-spoke blacked-out alloy wheels and chrome-embellished rear-view mirrors. The company has also added many premium inserts to this gearless scooter.

For instance, it gets a dual-tone tan seat that feels very upmarket. Also, the body panels of this scooter are finished in a light brown shade that gives it a premium appeal. The TVS Jupiter is also available in a top-spec Classic variant that gets additional bits like a short clear lens visor, attractive graphics on the body panels and a more premium seat with a nice textured finish. The top-spec variant of the scooter also gets a soft backrest for the pillion. The new TVS Jupiter BS6 is currently available in a total of 15 different colour shades. They are - Walnut Brown, Midnight Black, Pristine White, Titanium Grey, Matte Blue, Volcano Red, Indiblue, Autumn Brown, Sunlit Ivory, Royal Wine, Starlight Blue, Metallic Silver, Titanium Grey, Starlight Blue and Royal Wine.

    TVS Jupiter

The new TVS Jupiter measures 1834 mm in length, 678 mm in width and it stands 1286 mm tall. The scooter has a wheelbase of 1275 mm and the seat height is rated at 765 mm. At 765 mm seat height, the TVS Jupiter is a very accessible gearless scooter for both short as well as tall riders. The scooter has a 150 mm ground clearance which is quite low when compared to its rivals, however, it gets the job done pretty well. The new TVS Jupiter BS6 has a kerb weight of 109 kgs and the fuel tank capacity of this gearless scooter has been rated at 5.0 litres. The TVS Jupiter is the longest scooter in its class, has the longest wheelbase but is also the heaviest.

    Summary

The new TVS Jupiter BS6 is a handsome-looking scooter and its top-spec variants get a lot of additional goodies which lend it a premium appeal. The scooter is also available in multiple colour shades.

  • Jupiter Engine Performance and Mileage

The new TVS Jupiter is powered by a BS6 compliant 109.7cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine and it also gets TVS’ EcoThrust Fuel-injection (ET-Fi) technology. The engine comes mated to a CVT. The TVS Jupiter has always been a decent scooter and the BS6 update made it even better. This gearless scooter has great initial pick-up and it offers decent performance for city commutes. This BS6 motor is very refined too and you won’t be able to feel many vibrations. However, the scooter feels a bit rough while riding at low speeds but once you start gaining speed, it gets a lot better. The TVS Jupiter offers good low-end and mid-range performance.

One cannot expect a good top-end punch from these 110cc scooters and the same stands true for the TVS Jupiter too. The scooter has a top speed of around 85 kmph but it takes a lot of time to cross the 70 kmph mark and since it is a gearless scooter, it isn’t very safe too to ride it at such speeds. The TVS Jupiter has always been a fuel-efficient scooter and thanks to the new ET-Fi technology, it now offers better fuel economy than before. The TVS Jupiter BS6 delivers around 45-55 kmpl of mileage in real-world riding conditions. It is also a very reliable scooter.

    TVS Jupiter

    Summary

The TVS Jupiter offers good performance with a great pick-up. The scooter is also quite fuel-efficient and it delivers around 45-55 kmpl of mileage in real-world riding conditions.

  • Jupiter Tyres, Brakes and Features

The TVS Jupiter is based on a high rigidity underbone type frame. The suspension duties on the scooter are performed by telescopic forks at the front and it gets a 3-step adjustable type coil spring with a hydraulic damper at the rear. The TVS Jupiter offers a smooth and composed ride. It glides over speed breakers or broken patches of roads effortlessly. For braking duties, the TVS Jupiter BS6 gets a 130 mm drum brake at the rear while at the front, one can choose between a 130 mm drum or a disc unit. It also gets TVS’ Synchronised Braking System or SBT as an additional safety aid. TVS’ SBT performs the same function as Honda’s CBS.

What it does is, when you press the rear brake, it even applies the front brake a bit automatically to stop the scooter in less time and also at a much smaller distance. The scooter runs on 12-inch tubeless tyres. Both the tyres of the TVS Jupiter are of the same size and they measure 90/90-12. The TVS Jupiter is also pretty feature-loaded. While its base variants get a simple analogue cluster, the top variants get a more fancy analogue instrument cluster with Eco and Power indicator, etc.

    Summary

The TVS Jupiter is a 110cc gearless scooter. It packs in decent hardware, offers good ride quality but the braking performance could have been better. The TVS Jupiter is quite feature-loaded and it has an analogue instrument cluster with all basic trip-related information.
