The Honda Dio is powered by a BS6-compliant 109.51cc fan-cooled, 4 Stroke, SI engine that is mated to a clutch-type automatic transmission. The motor churns out a power of 7.65 bhp and a torque of 9 Nm. The motor provides great initial pick-up and offers decent performance for city commutes. However, like every other 110cc scooter in its segment, the Dio does not offer a great top-end performance. That said, the engine does attain a top speed of around 83 kmph but it takes a lot of time to reach there from the 70 kmph mark. Also, the high-speed stability of the vehicle is poor.
The BS6 motor is also refined to a point where the note of the engine cannot be heard at idle. There is minimal vibration on the footpeg, floorboard and handle but the scooter does feel a bit rough while riding at low speeds. However, the ride quality becomes much better as the speed increases.
The Dio has a sensor-based PGM-FI system that maintains optimum fuel-air ratio. This helps the vehicle deliver efficient combustion, which results in consistent power output and more mileage. As for the brakes, the Dio comes equipped with Drum brakes of the size 130 mm on the front and the rear. The brake system works in tandem with a Combi-brake System (CBS) which applies the front brake automatically to stop the scooter while you engage the rear drum brake. This ensures efficient braking and assists the rider to come to a quick stop.
The Dio also gets tubeless tyres in the front and rear. The front tyre is sized 90/90-12 54J, whereas, the rear tyre is of the size 90/100-10 53J. Tyres of these sizes are known for providing good resistance against aquaplaning and should ensure a good amount of grip on bad sections of the road.
