The new Ather 450X is an enhanced version of the Ather 450 and it gets a lot of updates over its predecessor. The Ather 450X was launched in the Indian market in January 2020 and now its price has been slashed massively. Why Ather has reduced the price of its Electric Scooter?

The Indian Government is actively promoting green mobility in the country and trying its best to boost the sales of EVs in India. In 2019, the Ministry of Heavy Industry (MHI), Government of India, introduced the FAME II (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles) policy and the GoI offered a subsidy of Rs 10,000/kWh on the electric two-wheelers. Now, this FAME II policy has been revised and the government is now providing a subsidy of Rs 15,000/kWh on electric two-wheelers and so Ather has reduced its prices.

The price of the new Ather 450X has been reduced by Rs 14,500 which is a significant amount and this move will surely boost its sales in India. The new Ather 450 Plus is now priced at Rs 1.13 lakhs while the Ather 450X is priced at Rs 1.32 lakhs in Delhi. The Ather 450X is the most powerful electric scooter currently on sale in India. It gets a 2.61 kWh lithium-ion battery that is coupled with an electric motor. This electric powertrain churns out 8.15 PS of power and 26 Nm of peak torque. The Ather 450X can go from 0-40 kmph in just 3.4 seconds and the top speed of the EV is rated at 80 kmph.

Tarun Mehta, CEO and Co-founder of Ather Energy, said, "The revision in the FAME policy, increasing the subsidy by 50% per KWh is a phenomenal move. Sales of electric two-wheelers have grown despite the pandemic and with this additional subsidy, we expect electric two-wheeler sales to disrupt the market, and clock 6 million+ units by 2025."
