BMW 2-Series India launch Slated for October 15

September 2020 was full of launches including some important launches like of the Sonet. Moving forward, October will be full of launches too, including the launch of Mahindra Thar and Mercedes EQC 400. Now, BMW is also all set to launch the 2-Series Gran Coupe in India on October 15. The 2-Series Gran Coupe will take on the likes of Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limo and 2021 Audi A3 - both are yet to get launched in India.

Apparently, the front of the 2-Series isn't its best profile

BMW 2-Series was unveiled in the global markets last year and it is the first-ever Gran Coupe incarnation of the BMW 1 Series. Underpinned by the Mini's FWD platform which also underpins the X1, the 2-Series is unlike every other BMW. Whilst the lower variants are only front-wheel driven, higher variants also get the option of BMW' xDrive. BMW will locally assemble the 2-Series in India and it will be priced competitively.

The design of the BMW 2-Series is very much inspired by the bigger 8-Series Gran Coupe. The front of the 2-Series gets the sharp nose along with bigger kidney grille. The headlights of the 2-Series are swept-back and give it a dramatic look. The side profile of the 2-Series sports tapering roofline and frameless doors. The rear of the 2-Seres resembles the most with the 8-Series thanks to all LED slim taillights. However, in every dimension, the 2-Series is smaller than its German rival - the Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limo.

Moving to the interiors, we have the typical BMW interior with great quality and form factor. The touchscreen and controls are tilted towards the driver which lends a sporty look. The driver's display is all digital and gets the inverted dial layout. The rear seat space of the 2-Series is generous, however, headroom will be an issue for taller passengers given the sloping roofline. BMW will launch the 2-Series in various trim levels which also means we will get sportier M Sport interiors as well.

Moving to the powertrain of the BMW 2-Series, at launch is expected a 2.0-litre diesel engine plonked in the car. The engine will be good for 190hp and 400 Nm of torque mated to the 8-speed automatic transmission. The diesel engine will come with front-wheel-drive and the 228i xDrive with all-wheel drive may get launched later. BMW will also launch the 192hp 2.0-litre turbo petrol later on with the 2-Series.

The BMW 2-Series will be the most affordable BMW to own in India. It is yet to be seen if BMW prices the diesel 2-Series over the BMW X1 or not. As the expected price of the 2-Series lies between 35 lakh to 38 lakh ex-showroom, it will be the entry gate to the world of BMW. As we stated earlier, it will rub its shoulders, with yet to be launched, Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limo and 2021 Audi A3 Sedan. BMW will launch the 2-Series in India on October 15.
