The Indian car manufacturer Mahindra has decided to stay confined to the three and four wheelers with electric powertrains. Even though the two wheeler electric mobility segment has picked up with a significant pace in a country like India, Mahindra EV powertrain plans have been axed for two wheelers as per a press conference held yesterday.
The auto manufacturer aims to orient itself towards the development of three and four wheelers with a confined approach towards research on powertrain, thus offering the best to its customers. A few years back, Mahindra's eKUV100 was displayed in the Auto Expo and grabbed the likes of automotive journalists as well. Also, an eXUV 300 was spotted on road a few weeks ago.

Even though the company is working jointly with Hero Electric to develop electric two wheelers on a large scale, Mahindra and Hero would share technologies for the mass market and plan to achieve a volume of more than one million electric two wheelers by the end of 2022. This platform sharing would promote electrification of Mahindra-owned Peugeot Motorcycles portfolio in the near future.
As per the MD of Hero Electric, Mr. Naveen Munjal, this partnership would help to sustain the demand and supply of electric two wheelers with enhanced capabilities. Hero would now be sharing resources and technologies with Mahindra which would lead to a better tomorrow with the robust and wide-spread supply chain of Mahindra.
Mahindra aims to release its electric SUV lineup by the end of 2023 along with commercial vehicles. This focus would help them develop advanced technologies which can later be brought to two wheelers in the joint venture with Hero electric. They plan to reveal their entire EV development strategy in the upcoming future.
