With traffic challans drilling a hole into the public's pockets, traffic regulation defaulters from Hyderabad are receiving relief officially from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. Might sound odd, but yes! It is a typical traffic challan discount being offered!
As per the reports, the traffic police in Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda have declared a discount on the payment of traffic fines for the vehicles registered in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. Currently, the region has a backlog of more than 600 crores of pending challans. Therefore, the Hyderabad traffic police have decided to present a helping hand to the commuters who have gone through difficult times because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
As per the traffic challan discount scheme, two-wheeler challan owners will have to pay just one-fourth of the actual challan amount while the owners four wheeler light motor vehicles and heavy vehicles will have to pay just half of the traffic challan amount. All public transport buses under the Road Transport Corporation (RTC) would be charged for just 30% of the challan and the rest would be waved off. However, these challan discounts would be valid only for online payment methods as per the Telangana Police.

A definite period for challan clearance has been issued and the traffic defaulters would be able to avail of this challan discount only if the traffic dues are cleared during that particular window. This is a one time opportunity concession being offered to the citizens for a pending challan within the whole month of March 2022.
This would help the government organisations to boost the clearance of pending challans, at least partially.
