As per the recent reports which surfaced online, Yamaha is working on introducing turbocharged engines on its upcoming range of vehicles. Let us also remind you that it is not for the first time that Yamaha is planning a move like this as the company has also previously introduced a turbocharged engine in the XJ650 Turbo in the early 1980s. The move from Yamaha To Introduce Turbochargers in its upcoming motorcycles will help the brand introduce smaller displacement engines producing more power.

As per a patent filed by the brand, it is very clear that it is working on developing a turbocharged engine. Adding a turbocharger in its motorcycle will help Yamaha to extract around 30-40 percent of power from an existing naturally aspirated engine. For instance, if the brand introduces a turbocharger in the MT-10, the power output is expected to be boosted to around 200 hp, making the bike complete head-on with its rivals form higher segments.

Addition of a turbocharger results in forced induction that uses the engines exhaust gases to force pressurized air into the combustion chamber. In a turbocharged engine, the exhaust gases are used to spin the turbine in the turbocharger which turns the compressor that sucks in air and compresses it. The compressed air then enters the combustion chamber and results in an increased output as more air and fuel is burnt in the same chamber.

By adding turbocharged engines to its bikes, Yamaha will be able to extract more power from smaller capacity engines. This will not only help them to build lightweight powerful engines but will also help the motorcycles meet the stringent emission norms.
