Latest On Honda Jazz

Last Updated On 8th Apr'23: Honda Jazz has been the most reliable and known workhorse hatchback from the company globally. However, it was performing only moderately well in India. Additionally, the new BS6 Phase 2 emission norms meant that the Jazz needed to be revised thoroughly. Hence, Honda India has decided to axe the Jazz brand in the domestic market. Meanwhile, Honda is planning to enter into the mid-size SUV segment of India with an all-new product. The upcoming Honda SUV is still unnamed but it’ll draw its inspiration from the global WR-V and HR-V. Honda has already started accepting its bookings in India. Its launch is speculated in the coming months.

The Honda Jazz is an international selling hatchback that is widely appreciated for its ultra-spacious cabin with practical interior design. Being a 5-seater hatchback, the Honda Jazz can easily accommodate more space than what it is registered for. The split-seat design at the rear is segment-first & helps the passengers to fix the unanimous amount of luggage inside the Honda Jazz. The Honda Jazz is also one of the most affordable cars in India that provide the options of paddle shifters. Recently, Honda has revised the price list for the Jazz hatchback. The Honda Jazz is offered with a total of 6 different variant options. The prices have been increased for all of these variants. There are also rumors that the production cycle for the Honda Jazz is nearing its end in India soon.

Honda Jazz Detailed Review

Exterior 7.5

Being an international product, the Honda Jazz is a proper Japanese premium hatchback in terms of looks and design. The Honda Jazz's overall profile is similar to that of its predecessors, yet there are enough design differences to allow the Jazz to stand out. It has all-LED headlights, sporty slim halogen headlamps, and LED fog lamps up front, with LED taillights as well. It has rear washers and wipers, as well as 15-inch silver alloy wheels with 175/65 tyres. The front, which comes in five colours, has an up nose style that gives it a Japanese feel. The shiny edges and chrome work on the front radiator and grille give it a premium appearance. The ORVMs are equipped with foldable LED blinkers. The doorknobs are chrome-plated. With an antenna on top, the back looks sober. Single-tonne bumper with chrome accents for a sporty look.

When viewed from the side, the new Jazz BS6 may appear to be similar to previous Jazz models, but with all of these features and characteristics, it has developed its own distinct identity with a fresh visual appeal and is being marketed as a new package. Although, the design of the car has now started to grow very old and the Honda India plans to discontinue the Jazz soon in the Indian market.

Summary

The Honda Jazz has a tallboy architecture but still manages to look quite handsome due to the stylish cab-forward design.

Interior 7.5

The dashboard's design is the same, with the central console tilted towards the driver, but it now has a soft-touch surface. The interior is black and beige, and it maintains its reputation for having one of the roomiest cabins in its class, as well as a 354-litre boot. However, the Honda Jazz's unusual and unique "Magic Seat" is missing, and the headrests for the rear seat passengers are also fixed, which may annoy a few consumers. The most USP of Jazz remains its interior space management. This small hatchback can literally move an entire house on the go. There is loads and loads of usable space inside the cabin of the Jazz.

It comes with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, as well as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. The touchscreen infotainment system has excellent touchscreen response and is relatively simple to operate. It comes with a smart air filter, numerous drive modes, a 360-degree camera, and temperature controls, among other features. On manual models, the steering wheel has many buttons, including paddle shift and cruise control. Push-button start, keyless entry, auto air conditioning with touchscreen control panel, and a multi-info combi metre are all important pluses. It contains several built-in programmes, including an air filter, various vehicle modes, a back camera, and temperature settings.

The ergonomics are spot on with all the controls being easily accessible from the driver’s seat along with height adjustment. The cabin is mainly made up of soft-touch materials on the interior to offer a good amount of comfort. The inside is light and airy, with beige seats that provide a welcoming atmosphere. It includes a huge electric sunroof that stretches to the second row, making it the only hatchback in its class with this feature. There's plenty of room for access and egress because the doors open wide. In the centre row, it features enough legroom and pleasant seating postures, easily fitting three adults. The flat floor is undoubtedly a plus because it allows you more legroom. On the roof, there is also sufficient lighting.

Summary

All in all, the interior is comfortable yet practical.

Performance 8

The 90 horsepower 1.2 litre four-cylinder petrol engine remains in the 2020 Honda Jazz, but it now passes BS6 pollution requirements. A 5-speed manual and a CVT automatic transmission are available, with the latter being the only automatic in the segment having steering-mounted paddle shifters. Honda revealed that the CVT version of Jazz accounted for a stunning 70% of total Jazz sales in the country. Honda is globally established for making one of the most refined and powerful engines. The Honda Jazz is no exception as it is offered with a very smooth as well as fuel efficient petrol engine.

The manual Jazz gets 16.6 kilometers per gallon while the CVT variant gets 17.1 kilometers per gallon. Those looking for a diesel variant, however, will be unhappy to learn that Honda has removed the 1.5-litre diesel from the Jazz inventory. The engine was modified to meet BS6 pollution standards and continues to power models including the City, amaze, and WRV, although it was dropped from the Jazz because of low demand. There are front disc and rear drum brakes, as well as a superb suspension arrangement that absorbs any undulations effortlessly on bumps and potholes. It has a maximum torque of 110Nm at 4800rpm, which allows it to accelerate quickly. Even high-speed cruising is far superior to what was available in previous generations.

Summary

The Honda Jazz delivers a powerful and commendable performance.

Ride & Handling 7

The Honda Jazz isn't very enjoyable to drive, but it is safe and predictable. Most drivers agree that the CVT version is more enjoyable to drive on the road because it handles faster curves with ease and can cross rough terrains with a significant degree of traction. Despite being a chassis, the Jazz is competent in managing uneven terrains since it is steady and sure-footed, with more than adequate grip when needed. The engine appears tiny, yet it has enough torque to climb a steep incline without difficulty. The engine does not create a very loud sound, but it is of excellent quality. The overall ride of the Jazz is relaxed and the car is meant for city use. The Honda Jazz remains stable at highway speeds but the steering feedback is on the lighter side.

Summary

The Honda Jazz is quite safe and can bear a significant amount of traction in rough terrains.

Safety 7.5

Honda Jazz is a safe car in the segment. It managed to score a certified 4-star GNCAP crash test rating that many of its segment rivals could not. The Honda Jazz has kept its safety features intact. Dual airbags, anti-lock brakes (ABS) with electronic brake distribution (EBD), a rear camera, rear defogger, automatic climate settings, and four ultrasonic back parking sensors are among the safety features available. It comes with impact-absorbing headrests, an ACE (Advanced Compatibility Engineering) body structure, and an anti-theft immobilizer. In the event of a frontal collision, the automobile also contains belt pretensioners, a belt load limiter, and a driver knee airbag.

Summary

The Honda Jazz was crash tested by Global NCAP and received a 5-star rating, making it the safest hatchback car on the market. It boasts an 87% rating for adult occupants, 83% for kid occupants, 80% for vulnerable road users, and 76% for safety assist, thanks to features like speed assistance, lane assistance, and cruise control.

Honda Jazz is one of the finest in the segment. I mostly use it for long trip and it's very comfortable in driving, good leg space is the cabin. Great boot space. In city milage is somewhere close to 10-12 and on the highway it's 15-16kmpl.
