Mechnically, Tata Tigor iCNG is powered by a 1.2-litre, three-pot motor and it churns out 72 bhp of power on tap with a peak torque of 95 Nm. Unliek the petrol motor that is also available with an optional AMT unit, Tigor iCNG gets mated to a five-speed stick shift only.
Driving the CNG tigor is as fun as the petrol motor. The transition from petrol to CNG or vice-versa is a smooth process and there's no jerkiness at all. The drive feels so smooth that if you're driving the sedan in a sedate manner then one can hardly make out if it is being run on petrol or CNG mode. Yes, the power and torque figures sometimes feels inadequate when compared with the petrol model on incline surfaces when the car is fully loaded up or when pushing the throttle hard, however, it is a car that is enjoyed the best when driven with a light right foot. The ARAI certified fuel economy of the Tigor iCNG sticks to 26.49 km/kg and with cylinder capacity of 8 to 9 kgs, we feel that the highway runs can be achieved with 250+ km range on a full tank.
On paper, it has more power / torque than rivals but heavy weight negates this. However, smooth operation nevertheless.
One of the most popular compact sedans that is Tata Tigor is now available with an option of factory-fitted CNG. In its CNG avatar, Tigor is available in two variants - XZ and XZ+. The latter variant is also available with a dual-tone colour option too. With the Tigor iCNG, it does not differentiate itself from conventional petrol too much. There are subtle changes like the iCNG badging at the rear and the 14-inch hyperstyle steel wheels with this model. The conventional petrol model is equipped with 15-inch alloy wheels. Tata is providing five colour options with the Tigor iCNG - Pure Silver, Magnetic Red, Arizona Blue, Opal White and Daytona Grey.
Tata Tigor iCNG measures 3,993 mm in length, 1,677 mm in width, 1,532 mm in height and gets a wheelbase of 2450 mm. The ground clearance of this compact sedan sticks to 165 mm with a kerb weight of 1165 kg. With the CNG cylinder onboard, the boot carrying capacity of Tigor has dropped to 205 litres from 419 litres.

Looks identical to the petrol Tigor apart from the iCNG badge alloy wheel look-alike wheel caps .
Unlike the petrol counterpart, the interior of the Tigor iCNG now receives a tweaked black and beige interior colour scheme. The digital instrument cluster stands out when compared with the Hyundai Aura CNG and there's a CNG button that helps the driver in choosing the fuel option.
Other features in the Tigor iCNG include a larger touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, digital instrument cluster, tilt-adjustable steering wheel with steering mounted controls, an automatic climate control, all-four power windows, manual inside rear view mirror, push button start/stop, two 12V power sockets, cooled glove box, electrically adjustable and retractable outside rear view mirrors and more. Unlike rivals, the Tigor CNG is offered in higher trims and hence these features on offer.
Remains identical to the regular petrol apart from CNG display icon and the CNG change over button. Boot space is restricted now .
Sharing the deeds on the handling first then do not expect a confident response from the steering wheel at all. At city speeds, the steering is remarkably light thus helping you park the sedan easily in tight spaces. When cruising at triple digits speed on the highways, the steering just does the job.
Now, the suspension of the Tigor feels impressive for this budget and with the added weight of the CNG cylinder, the sedan now rides really better. Over the bad patches of the road, the sedan takes on the small bumps easily without causing discomfort to the passengers while on the highways, the ride is planted and feels good.
Fantastic ride quality. Feels safe and predicable at higher speeds as well
While the petrol version of the Tata Tigor scored a global NCAP rating of 4 stars, the same cannot be said for the CNG version of the sedan. However, Tata claims that they're sure of the build quality of the CNG version and it will score good points at the Global NCAP if tested.
The build quality of the Tigor is phenomenally good safety features on this one include dual airbags at the front, an anti-lock braking system with electronic brake-force distribution, corner stability control, front seat belt reminder, high-speed alert system, reverse parking sensors, speed-sensing door lock, child safety lock and among others. The CNG kit also has several safety add-ons : automatic cut off if leakage is detected for one. Likewise, the car will not start if the fuel filler cap is not shut properly.
If you want a safe set of CNG wheels, this is it!
Tata Tigor iCNG rivals Hyundai Aura CNG only as of this moment that is priced at Rs 7.74 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi.
