Tata Tigor Detailed Review
Tigor Performance
A 1.2-liter gasoline engine with a maximum output of 84.8 horsepower and a maximum torque of 113 Nm is housed under the hood. The engine is quite responsive and seems calm in the lower rev range. But as the rpm increase, the gasoline engine starts to sound a little louder. Nevertheless, the engine's degree of refinement cannot be fully disregarded. There are two transmission choices for the car: a 5-speed AMT and a 5-speed manual gearbox. The XE, XM, XZ, and XZ+ models all have 5-speed manual transmissions. Driving through traffic is a delight because to the vehicle's light clutch and the accurate, smooth gear changes.
The same 1.2-liter engine is also available in the Tigor's CNG drivetrain. The Tigor generates 95 Nm of maximum torque and 72.3 bhp of power while operating on CNG. A 5-speed manual transmission is included with the CNG version.
The Tigor XMA and XZA+ are the only two variants that come with the AMT transmission option. The gear shifts by the AMT suffer from the inherent lag and only those with regular commute through congested streets should pick up this model over the manual transmission variant. The vehicle provides up to 20kmpl on highways, which is something that comes as a huge positive in today’s day and age where fuel prices have sky-rocketed.
Summary
The 1.2-litre petrol engine of the Tigor offers a good mix of performance and fuel efficiency.
Tigor Exterior
Tata Tigor features a sporty-looking front end. It contains a honeycomb mesh grille that enhances the car's athletic appearance. It has a sleek appearance thanks to the chrome fog light inserts and blacked-out headlamps. Just below the headlights, the car also has a chrome line that spans the width of the bumper. It would not be fair to ignore the fact that the Tigor shares a frontal appearance with its sister, the Tata Tiago.
The Tiago served as a model for the car's side appearance as well. It has electrically adjustable outside rearview mirrors with built-in LED turn indicators. Along the length of the car are also strong-looking character lines. Tata Motors included body-colored/chrome door knobs even in its affordable vehicles.
Summary
The revolutionary design elements add to the bold character of the vehicle. The design elements and features that the vehicle has on offer is indeed worth every penny one spends, hence, design-wise, there are no two ways about it. It's a perfect choice.
Tigor Interior
Although there have been some changes made to the Tigor's cabin design, the inside of the car is relatively similar to that of the Tiago. It comes with a dual-tone dashboard and a three-spoke steering wheel with phone and music controls. The inside fabric upholstery appears to be very simple, but to make up for it, body-colored inserts are added to the air vents. The door knobs have a glossy black finish, adding to the interior design's appeal. A digital instrument cluster and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also included. The Tigor also gets push button start/stop, rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlamps, and other convenience features.
The seats are quite comfortable and provide decent under-thigh support. The headroom is also quite sufficient. However, only two decent-sized adults can be seated without any discomfort in the rear. This is because of the transmission tunnel that protrudes on the floor of the vehicle. The seats are wide so shoulder room is ample for two adults and a child to be seated in the rear seat. In addition to all these features, the driver gets a height-adjustable driver’s seat for better visibility and stance.
Summary
The cabin of the Tigor seems spacious and airy. The use of different shades on the dashboard trims make it feel like a more premium car.
Tigor Ride and Handling
As for handling, the vehicle gets dual-path suspension for better handling and performance. The suspension has been optimised to suit the Indian road conditions. As a matter of fact, the suspension has been well engineered to soak in the bumps and rough terrain. The suspension setup is on the stiffer side and vibrations do persist. However, they do not get too bothersome. While the vehicle easily reaches triple digit speeds, high-speed stability is not the strongest point of this sub-compact sedan. Compared to the Ford Aspire, the Tigor isn’t as confidence-inspiring in the corners.
The steering lacks response and precision at high speeds but it does feel responsive enough while taking U-turns and changing directions at a slow pace. There is some amount of body roll but nothing that can cause discomfort to the passengers.
Summary
Due to a stiff suspension setup, the bumps and bad roads can be handled by the vehicle but the cabin takes in vibrations. The robust chassis and suspension can take on rough sections, however, the impact is felt inside the cabin.
Tigor Safety
The Tata Tigor has attained a high rating in the Global New Car Assessment Program (GNCAP) crash tests. The sub-compact sedan has scored 4 stars in adult occupant protection and three stars for child occupant protection. The vehicle has set new safety standards in the Indian automobile market.
The vehicle features two front airbags, ABS, EBD and a corner stability control system for added safety. In addition to this, it has a rear camera with dynamic guidelines, a speed-sensitive auto door locking system and a puncture repair kit for safety and convenience.
Summary
The Tigor performs exceptionally well considering the Indian road conditions. With added safety features like the corner stability control, the vehicle can be manoeuvred easily even during panic situations.
