Tata Tigor gets a sporty looking design upfront. It houses a honeycomb mesh grille that adds to the sporty character of the vehicle. The blacked-out headlamps and chrome inserts on the fog lamps give it a sleek looking profile. The vehicle also gets chrome lining that runs across the width of the bumper, just below the headlights. However, it would not be fair to leave out the fact that up front, the Tigor looks similar to its sibling, the Tata Tiago.
The side profile of the vehicle is also inspired from the Tiago. It gets electrically adjustable exterior rearview mirrors that have LED turn indicators integrated into them. It also has bold looking character lines that run across the length of the vehicle. Even as a budget-friendly car, Tata Motors has not left out body-coloured/chrome door handles.
Like the bold looking character that the front portion of the vehicle presents, the tail section has pretty sporty attributes. The Tata Tigor gets LED tail lamps with a chrome strip running across the width of the boot, bringing fluidity to the design. The XE, XM and XZ trims come with 14-inch steel wheels while the XZ+ variant gets 15-inch alloy wheels.
As for the size, the Tigor is 3993 mm in length, 1677mm in width and 1532mm in height. The vehicle also presents a decent-sized boot. With 419 Litre of boot space, plenty of luggage can be carried for occasional road trips.

The revolutionary design elements add to the bold character of the vehicle. The design elements and features that the vehicle has on offer is indeed worth every penny one spends, hence, design-wise, there are no two ways about it. It’s a perfect choice.
The interior of the vehicle is quite similar to the Tiago, but there are some tweaks done to the cabin design of the Tigor. It gets a dual-tone dashboard and a 3 spoke steering wheel that consists of audio and phone controls. Even though the fabric upholstery in the interior seems quite plain, the air vents get body-coloured inserts around them to compensate. The door handles come with a glossy black finish making it an attractive interior design.
The infotainment system integrated on the dashboard has smart play which allows image and video playback in addition to the Android Auto and Apple Carplay function. The seats are quite comfortable and provide decent under-thigh support. The headroom is also quite sufficient. However, only two decent-sized adults can be seated without any discomfort in the rear. This is because of the transmission tunnel that protrudes on the floor of the vehicle. The seats are wide so shoulder room is ample for two adults and a child to be seated on the rear seat. In addition to all these features, the driver gets a height-adjustable driver’s seat for better visibility and stance.
The cabin of the Tigor seems spacious and airy. The use of different shades on the dashboard trims make it feel like a more premium car.
Under the hood resides a 1.2-litre petrol engine that can churn out a maximum power of 86 PS and a peak torque of 113 Nm. The engine is quite responsive and seems calm in the lower rev range. However, as the revs climb, the petrol mill turns out to be a bit vocal. That said, the fact that the engine is refined to an extent cannot be dismissed completely. The vehicle comes in two transmission options - 5-speed AMT and 5-Speed Manual gearbox. The XE, XM, XZ, and XZ+ variants come with 5-speed manual gearbox setup. The gear shifts are precise and smooth and with the light clutch that the vehicle has on offer, driving through traffic is a breeze.
The Tigor XMA and XZA+ are the only two variants that come with the AMT transmission option. The gear shifts by the AMT suffer from the inherent lag and only those with regular commute through congested streets should pick up this model over the manual transmission variant. The vehicle provides up to 20kmpl on highways, which is something that comes as a huge positive in today’s day and age where fuel prices have sky-rocketed.
The 1.2-litre petrol engine of the Tigor offers a good mix of performance and fuel efficiency.
As for handling, the vehicle gets dual-path suspension for better handling and performance. The suspension has been optimised to suit the Indian road conditions. As a matter of fact, the suspension has been well engineered to soak in the bumps and rough terrain. The suspension setup is on the stiffer side and vibrations do persist. However, they do not get too bothersome. While the vehicle easily reaches triple digit speeds, high-speed stability is not the strongest point of this sub-compact sedan. Compared to the Ford Aspire, the Tigor isn’t as confidence-inspiring in the corners.
The steering lacks response and precision at high speeds but it does feel responsive enough while taking U-turns and changing directions at a slow pace. There is some amount of body roll but nothing that can cause discomfort to the passengers.
Due to a stiff suspension setup, the bumps and bad roads can be handled by the vehicle but the cabin takes in vibrations. The robust chassis and suspension can take on rough sections, however, the impact is felt inside the cabin.
The Tata Tigor has attained a high rating in the Global New Car Assessment Program (GNCAP) crash tests. The sub-compact sedan has scored 4 stars in adult occupant protection and three stars for child occupant protection. The vehicle has set new safety standards in the Indian automobile market.
The vehicle features two front airbags, ABS, EBD and a corner stability control system for added safety. In addition to this, it has a rear camera with dynamic guidelines, a speed-sensitive auto door locking system and a puncture repair kit for safety and convenience.
The Tigor performs exceptionally well considering the Indian road conditions. With added safety features like the corner stability control, the vehicle can be manoeuvred easily even during panic situations.

Very recently I bought the new 2020 Tata Tigor BS6. I was looking for a compact sedan in the market and was confused between the Tigor and the Ford Aspire and then news came that Tigor got 4 Star safety rating in Global NCAP, so I bought it as for me Safety is utmost priority. The new Tigor looks astonishingly good, its sleek stance looks really good and it has got new design elements. The new Tigor gets a BS6-compliant engine and this engine is although a three-cylinder unit, I liked its refinement and it gives good mileage too. I got my Tigor delivered in March this year but then lockdown happened and so I have driven it just 2300 kilometres till now. I am happy to own the Tigor as it is India’s safest compact sedan.
