Should I buy the City Hybrid?
The Honda City Hybrid is a great choice for Hybrid lovers and it is an underrated car in its segment. It offers excellent comfort in the cabin and has brilliant fuel efficiency. The premium interiors, great features, and smooth refined hybrid powertrain make it a good choice for customers. The regular version has no direct rival. But, if you still want other options, look at the Toyota Hyryder Hybrid or Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara in the Hybrid Segment.
- Talking about the design language of the Hybrid City has quite similarities and differences from the regular version. talking about the differences, it has a blue line accent above the grill and a blue logo to indicate that it is a Hybrid. The headlights have a 9 LED setup which has brilliant illumination at night. The fog lamps are also LED which enhances the illumination.
- From the side, it is identical to the regular version. It has the same 16” alloy wheels on offer but the design of those could have been changed. The chrome door handles enhance the premium character to a certain extent.
- Coming at the rear, it has the same design as the taillamps. The LED Taillamps have a simple and elegant design. The differentiating factor is the blue tinge in the HONDA logo which indicates that it is a hybrid.
- The next differentiating factor is the boot space on offer. Since this is a Hybrid vehicle, its boot space is reduced to 306L from 506 L due to the hybrid battery placement. Even after that, it has enough boot space to store your luggage very easily for your weekend commutes.
- As we step inside the cabin of the Honda City Hybrid, it welcomes us with a sense of sophistication and premiumness inside. The touch and feel of materials inside is premium. Some plastics could have been better as per standards.
- The seats offer leatherette upholstery and offer tremendous comfort. The dual tone for the dashboard removes the claustrophobic feeling. The dashboard layout is identical to the regular version but the Hybrid version comes with an electronic parking brake.
- Coming to the features front, it offers a bunch of features that are most likely to be utilized in modern times. It offers wireless charging and connectivity for Android Auto and Apple Carplay. It also has automatic climate control, etc. But, it could have offered more features like cooled front seats and driver seat memory. It could have had ambient lights, etc.
- The powertrain in the Honda City Hybrid is a bit different from the regular version. This also gets an IVTEC engine but with a battery and an electric motor for enhanced fuel efficiency.
- This comes equipped with a 1.5L 4-cylinder petrol engine that churns out 97 BHP and 127 Nm of peak torque from the engine. This is mated to a CVT transmission along with regenerative braking modes to enhance fuel efficiency.
- Coming to the motor specifications, it comes with a PMSM motor that combined churns out 126 BHP and 253 Nm of torque. This has a claimed fuel efficiency of 27.13 km/L but in real life, it will return more than that and will depend on your driving conditions.
- The driveability of this Hybrid powertrain is great. It offers punchy hybrid performance. It has a combined output. When driven gently, it has great fuel efficiency.
City Hybrid engine specifications:
| Transmission | Automatic (e CVT) |
| Mileage | 27.1 |
| Engine | 1498 cc |
| Power | 98.63 bhp @ 5600-6400 rpm |
| Torque | 131 Nm @ 4500 -5000 |
| Drive Train | FWD |
- The cabin experience of the City Hybrid is top-class. It has sheer elegance attached to it and offers a luxurious experience.
- The seats have great cushioning. They offer comfortable seating posture. The cabin is wide enough for 3 passengers at the rear. The rear passengers are pampered by the rear AC vents along with the Type-C charging sockets.
- The suspension of the Hybrid version is tuned on the softer side. The car has shock absorbers. They adapt to the road well. This gives a comfy ride and a luxury feel in the back seats.
- The steering wheel is light in use and offers decent levels of feel and feedback. It could have been done with more weight to make it feel a bit more responsive around the bends and corners. It drives well and has a useful blind spot monitor camera. The camera would be better with higher quality.
