Hyundai India is prepping up to launch the new i20 this festive season. While the new i20 has started reaching dealerships with multiple spy shots in place, Hyundai has now teased the official design sketches of the 2020 i20 and it looks striking. The new i20 follows the brand's Sensuous Sportiness design theme which we also see with the 2021 Hyundai Elantra.
The front of the new i20 is hunkered down with sharp creases on the hood and wide cascading grille. The design of the grille will be changed with respect to the trims while the one with the Turbo DCT will be the sportiest of the lot. The cascading grille is flanked with headlights which are projectors for our market - unlike the foreign model which gets LED headlights. The lower part of the bumper also sees vertically-stacked air dams incorporated with projector fog lamps.
Moving to the side profile, we get a prominent shoulder line exceeding towards the taillights. The new i20 will offer 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels which are also visible in the sketches. The side mirrors are also a bit angular than before - just like we see in M cars, for added sportiness. The rear profile of the new i20 is very sharp and sporty - featuring Z-shaped LED taillights with a chrome strip in between. The chrome strip running at the back may seem odd to some buyers but it looks striking for sure.

Hyundai has also teased the interiors of the 2020 i20 and we are happy to report that the interiors are similar to the Euro-spec model. The dashboard gets continuous AC vents design - similar to some Audi cars - giving a sporty look. Inspecting closely also reveals some green inserts on the door handles and AC flow switches. Hyundai did the same treatment with the interiors of the Santro. The centre of the dashboard gets a free-standing 10.25-inch touchscreen and the instrument cluster is fully digital.

Moving to the engine options, the 2020 Hyundai i20 will share its engines with the Venue. The first engine is the same 1.2-litre petrol engine with 83 PS and 113 Nm of torque, mated to a 5-speed manual and IVT. The second engine is the 1.5-litre WGT diesel engine with 100 PS and 240 Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed manual only. The last engine on offer will be the 1.0-litre turbo petrol with 120 PS and 172 Nm of torque, mated to 6-speed iMT and 7-speed DCT. However, the aforementioned engine-gearbox combinations are speculated and not yet confirmed.
Hyundai has revealed the official design sketches of the 2020 i20 and that hints imminent launch. Hyundai will launch the new i20 near this festive season and it won't be surprising if Hyundai launches the car in the coming weeks. Given the best-in-segment features of the new i20, the top trims are expected to cross the 10 lakh mark while the base trim will be priced around 5.5 lakh ex-showroom.
