Honorable Union Ministry of Transport & Highways minister Mr. Nitin Gadkari made clear that government is working on development of 'Bharat NCAP' car safety rating system to improve safety on Indian roads.
In a press conference recently, Mr. Gadkari accepted that the Indian car safety standards are loose, archaic and lack homogeneity. Have been working on road safety and infrastructure development intensively, Mr. Gadkari made statement that 'Bharat NCAP' is the name which is being worked over locally to test the safety features and safety integrity of new cars based on the global rating systems like G-NCAP.
Laying emphasis over the data, honorable minister also explained that more than 1,50,000 people loose lives in road accidents annually in India. To restrict this fatal data, government is concentrating over infrastructure as well as setting rigid safety standards for new cars.
The 'Bharat New Car Assessment Programme' shall lay focus over the standards set by various safety measuring private entities such as 'Latin-NCAP' and 'G-NCAP'.

Government is confident that such a safety standard rating will encourage and help the new car buyers in making informed and safe decisions. Also, currently, the rated products from various manufacturers have been conducted via private tests, this doesn't encourage every carmaker to test their vehicles. A local and sturdy car safety rating system will help every carmaker to design Safe passenger cars as well.
